Using steam in another country when travelling?
Hello everyone,

I live in Europe, and will be visiting India for a vacation for few months. Will I have problems if I access Steam from India? or if I buy some games when I am in India? Please let me know, so that I can decide if to use my usual steam account or open another one for India.

Thanks :D

But will my account be suspended? Since there will be a change in my ip address and location? should I inform steam that my location will be changed for a few months?

I think the games you own are not region locked, they're probably ROW versions. You can play your games anywhere.

Not sure if you buy games from india, might lock the games you bought on india when you return

playing, yes, that is no problem but i would mind buying games in india.

usually what people call "region lock" on Steam is just a purchase/activation restriction, however in some cases this can be also a complete region lock, like you might know it from early consoles, when you couldn't play jp/us PS games on a european PS console. in case of Steam it could happen that if you buy a game in india and you go back, that you cannot start that game anymore.

and no, your account will not be suspended for travelling.

You can't buy or receive anything while you are traveling, while I don't agree with steam (and they should re-think as remote work is a reality and people do travel for long periods) just avoid doing anything in your account during the trip. I'm currently traveling to Europe, my account, bank and house are in Brazil. The fact I'm in Europe caused my account to be here even though my husband is still in Brazil with my computer, he can't activate anything there (even while login in in his computer). I hope when I get back my account travel back with me otherwise I'll loose over 300 games. I can't buy anything here either because my bank is Brazilian ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ I guess I'll buy things in origin then.

OP ... You can still buy and play steam games while traveling if you don't try changing your store & payment settings to a different country.

All of that is false, and the thread is 7 years old. Traveling does not change your steam store, and you can buy games as normal from your home store region while traveling.

Accounts do not change based on location, you have to manually change your store region and provide a payment method from that region.
