Starting a video on Steam makes the client unresponsive :\

Hello, guys.

Whenever I wanna see videos from the community and open them, the Steam client doesn't play them and it instantly freezes on that page... Refreshing & changing to any other page (Store, discussions, so on) isn't working. I can still chat with my friends, play games and access the Steam settings, though.

The only solution to access Steam pages again is to restart the client - but I still cannot view any community videos if I try accessing them. :\

Additional info about my system:

> my default browser is Google Chrome
> I have Windows 7
> I have Adobe Flash installed (for Internet Explorer, but also for Chrome-based apps, like Steam)
> my GPU is GTX 980
> all the drivers are up-to-date
> I have no problems with viewing video content in any other place

Can someone help me fix this issue, please?

Also, should I enable hardware video encoding from Steam settings? Can this be the cause of my problem?

Since your default browser is Google Chrome, I'd assume you have Adobe Flash Player 19 PPAPI installed though?

Yes, PPAPI plug-in is for Chrome-based apps like Steam. Without it, I cannot see the Steam stats (statistics - player count graph) in the client.

Oh, and even without the PPAPI plug-in, Steam still locked up / freezed.

This is ridiculous, since I notice many rate-ups on videos + comment count.... meaning that others can see the videos :\

Do you use the Steam -client beta or the standard version?

If the latter, does opting into the beta program make the issue any different?

No, I never opt-in for the beta version.

You could try, but that's entirely up to you.

I'm in the beta, and I do still occasionally get freezes with the video player, but definitely not all the time.

I've decided to disable PPAPI from Google Chrome's plugin settings. Then I launched Steam > tested community videos > they worked + changing to other pages as well. I done this 2 times (= restarting the client) to check if the fix really works > and it did ^_^

funny thing is, it does not matter what you change in google chrome, it will not affect the Steam client.

I'm asking this while understanding Firefox uses NPAPI.
