No "CD Key" to add game to steam?
I bought Startopia on hard copy (CD) years ago and it does not require a CD Key to play so therefore there was no CD Key supplied, I'm looking to add this game to my steam games library, I have found that it is for sale on steam, so how do I do this without a Registration Key?

Not every game can be activated on Steam.

Startopia would seem to be one of those.

The game itself was released before Steam was even out.

thanks for your reply, so does that mean that even though steam is selling it that I can't add it without buying it again through steam?

Unless the publisher gives a Steam key for it, I'm afraid not.

Startopia is NOT on the list of retail games you can add to your steam account.

Which retail / digital CD Keys are accepted on Steam?

There are specific games which can be activated through key.

Ok! Ty for replies, searched faq's but couldn't find anything relevant, and I wasn't aware there was a list, reasonably new to steam

If you mean this
https://support.steampowered.com/kb_article.php?ref=7480-wusf-3601

Then take it with a pinch of salt, it isn't exactly up-to-date.

While I personally check individual games rather from PCGamingWiki, this will likely get you somewhere: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_games_using_Steam_authentication

But as said, even the Wikipedia page lacks info like "Borderlands 1 can be activated on Steam using the authentication tool from under Steam > Tools (this since GameSpy went down.)"

like others said, you could ask the publisher and/or developer if they wanna give you a steam key.

squeenix may be a company that might do this
