Alienware 17 runs games slow

I got a brand new alienware 17 and i have no idea why it is running games so slow. Isn't this supposed to be one of the best computers for gaming???? can someone please help me fix this problem.

You can only get a garunteed great gaming PC if you have it built for you. Alienware is the "best" because people don't realize you can get the same thing for a better price. Oh and if you're wondering, I'm not gonna help justbecause it's alienware and they're not that great in reality.

Well maybe theyre not that great but I'm pretty sure they can at least run games with decent graphics

They are supposed to. Although it's a laptop so I already dislike it. Plus it doesn't run at the same specs as a desktop would with the same equipment.

Then that could be the primary issue. Games aren't made to run on Windows 10 reliably yet.

And... games actually run the same/better in win 10

the whole windows 10 trash talk is mostly unjustified.
the same as windows 8 got trashed as bad because of no start menu and metro ui, win10 now gets trashed because of privacy concerns.

the core changes of win10 are not that big, they could have called it 8.2. overall performance is definately better then every previous windows version, especially if your system is lower-end, win10 is a boon. some random toaster i use for printing stuff runs waaaaaay better with 10 now.

no need, win10 is fine.

the 6700HQ cpu that should be in that laptop has an integraged 530 intel gpu, so definately check if the drivers use the corrrect gpu. but don't expect wonders ... those mobile GPUs, smoke in mirrors, 970 desktop version stomps its mobile sister.

i dont wanna "bug" you but $1400 for your cheapest laptop model would be already be a knock on the door to the club of monster gaming rigs on a desktop.

I have the same machine (although Windows 8 still haven't updated to Windows 10 yet). Reading up on what I should do when I do upgrade it suggests reinstalling ALL drivers.

After that as was previously suggested use the Nvidia console to ensure that the default is to use your high-performance GPU for the game in question (explicitly add it's binary to the list and make sure it has that listed as the GPU it'll use) and retry. I found this increased my performance in Stardrive 2 for example quite a bit.
