Does Steam Link increase fps?
On the steam link page it says it mirrors your computer, does that mean fps too? It also said 1080p and 60 fps. Is this what it run on? or just a max running capabilities? If I run a game off of my Dell laptop that lags will it lag on the tv or go 60 fps? I ask this because steam put two contradicting statements on their steam link page. "runs ate 1080p and 60fps" and "uses the horsepower you already have" If it increases my fps consider it sold, but if not whats the point?

Why would it increase performance? That wouldn't make sense at all.

Also, those quotes are not contradictory at all.

What the link can(not will) display.

Basically, your PC runs the games.

It simply streams your gameplay from a PC to your TV or other Display via your home network.
The system that the game is actually running on needs to be able to handle both the gameplay and streaming; a Laptop is hardly a good option to act as the main gaming PC.

Whatever performance you get on the main gaming PC you should essentially see mirrored through Steam Link and the connected display; however that is not always a given because there are many other factors for this, such as the streaming resolution as well as home network, and how your devices are connected.

Why doesn't someone who has a steam link answer back?

It's for people who'd like to play their PC games in another room/on another TV/display without having to run long cables or physically move their machine into the other room.

Actually it decreases the performance of your PC as it needs to convert the video/audio-stream and send it to the SteamLink. Additionally, it needs to manage a connection to the SteamLink device so that controllers plugged into the SteamLink can be used.

Of course that performance decrease only appears when you actually use the SteamLink.

It's just an easy way to play your favorite PC games on your TV.

1080p/60fps simply is the max limit.

can somebody please explain to me the point of the steam link?
if the games are just running on your computer and being streamed to your tv, what is the difference between a steam link and a hdmi from the computer directly into the tv

There is no difference. Some people have tv's in other rooms. Steam link allows you to avoid running a 50ft cable. That's all it does. It has nothing to do with performance. I have my desktop in my office, so steam link allows me to stream it to the living room. That's all it's used for.
