Valve should pay my internet bill ovrages since they are forcing updates of my games when I have no auto-updates selected.
Had to pay $180 for my bill this month because I've been going over my data cap, and Suddenlink who buys exclusivity contracts with cities enjoys ripping people off since we can't fight back, and the government doesn't seem to care as usual. So I go though every game I have downloaded and turn them all to no auto-updates, and as soon as an update pops up on a game I don't play it sits there for an hour and then auto-updates while I'm AFK. I go through and check all my games to see what's going on and they've all been set back to auto-updates. You're potentially costing me money Valve. In a world where we have data caps strangling us Steam is becoming too expensive to use since each game eats a large chuck of a data cap, and these forced updates are eating even more, especially the early access ones that get lots of updates. :OhNoBlue:

Dude just get a better internet provider I thinks some where in that terms of aggrement that you agreed to will say that they are not resposible for any damage done to your computer or hardware. So you don't have much power over them either.
Go offline if the game is single player. If the game is multiplayer you have to update to play it. That is just common sense. Valve isn't gonna cover your internet because you don't monitor your own stuff.
You agreed to those updates in the SSA. You are responsible for your own bills.

G. Free Subscriptions

In some cases, Valve may offer a free Subscription to certain services, software and content. Sorry it''s happening but here;s a coouple tips to help you until there is a solution.

Set your download speed to 16kbps so if a ga,e does update it won't be avle to download enough data fast enough to cause an overage.

I don't know why your update preferences got reset, but I guess try putting them back to only when launched. Then use steam in offline mode for games you can play without mandatory updates (like many multiplayer games do).

Depending on where you live, telcom/isp's have agrements with local governments and competing companies for which ISP can operate in a given territory. Some places only have one wired option and may have wireless broadband available but they are often expensive and capped as well.

Additionally, look into your routers settings. Most have an option to monitor data volume and warn you (and stop downloading) once you reach a certain treshhold.

There is also an option do limit the auto-download time frame. You could set it nightly hours when you're guaranteed to be offline.
Let me guess ATT get cable man thats the only way. Capped data is like a check book you have to keep it balanced or you might get a over drawn account.
