"Copy link URL" no longer works
When I right-click a link in Steam chat (I have inline images/media disabled), I can no longer copy the URL. Selecting the "Copy link URL" just gives me a https://steam-chat.com/chat/clientui url that doesn't resolve into anything.

I've tried it with the in-browser chat as well, and it just gives me https://steamcommunity.com/chat/#

My client is up to date.

Sometimes I can just highlight a link and copy & paste, but other times, even with inline media disabled, the "link" will actually just be the name/headline/title of wherever the link goes.

Anybody else having this issue?

Same problem. Right click "Copy Link URL" in a chat window just copies a steam-chat.com/chat/clientui/ url. It started happening recently on its own, and switching to steam beta from the non-beta didn't fix it.

The same problem applies to "Open Link in New Window" too.

Nope, it's still a problem for me as well.

Funny thing, I just made a new thread about the issue something like a week ago, having forgotten I'd made this thread in 2020.

After making that new thread, I thought of searching the forum... and I found this old thread. At that point, I just deleted the new thread and accepted this issue was unlikely to ever be fixed.

I think it may have fixed itself for a while in between, though? Or maybe I just got used to it enough that I forgot, until it started annoying me too much again. I'm not sure.

The only work-around I've found:

Setting "Don't embed images and other media in-line" to off, you can mouse-over at the bottom of the little preview box, and it'll show you the link, which you can highlight and copy normally.

It's annoying having to toggle off/on every time, but at least the option exists.

Many people assume online services go wrong and get fixed when it's actually just cirruption on your end.

Have you tried the general fix all when you get ANY such issues on Steam?

Namely going to your install folder and deleting everything except steam.exe and your steamapps folder? When you run steam.exe then it will reacquire all the needed files and you should be good to go.

If it still persists, then it can be that some other plugins on your browser (especially if you use any Chrome based browser) can also mess things up so try messing around with gettting rid of such plugins.

I tried disabling my plugins, but that didn't change anything (I use Firefox, for what it's worth).

As for deleting everything in my Steam folder except the exe, I tend to be leery of doing stuff like that.

What else might be affected by doing so? The only thing I can think of off the top of my head is having to

reconfigure my preferences, but I may be missing something. Anything I should backup to be safe?

I'm thinking it'd also delete my chat history?

Can't say about the chat history, but if you're worried about it, back it up beforehand, even if you manually have to copy and paste into a notepad.

Yes, it will likely upset your preferences. But here's the thing - it needs to be fixed and this is the "fix all" that does it.

I just thought of something else... what about my collections and the games I've assigned to them? Is that saved locally or on Steam's servers?

I've got nearly 2400 games, I'm not messing with that on a maybe.

Think I'm just gonna leave it be for now... these are the things I can think of... who knows what it might do I haven't even considered.

I can live with link copying not working for now, but thank you for the suggestion.

I'll keep it in mind for when I get truly desperate.

EDIT: Just had a thought - if/when I do it, wouldn't it be better to uninstall Steam properly and do a full install, instead of just deleting files? Or is there something specific about the file deletion method that helps in some way?

Well your steamapps folder is where all your games are and that's why you don't delete that part.

It won't touch any saves which arelocated elsewhere anyway.

I'm not talking about saves, but about "collections" in my Steam library I've created and tagged tons of games with.

I know you weren't . I just mentioned it to be inclusive.

I don't know about those things as I said - those would likely fall under some personal settings somewhere and likely would get deleted unless you find out where those settings resides. That's weomthing I'm unfamiliar with.

Fair enough.

Thank you for your suggestions. I'll hold off for now, but keep it in mind for the future.

Copy Link is missing yeah (Steam Client, regular mode only)
it used to be everywhere but then at some point it just broke, slowly less and less pages seemed to... still have it. xd

Good news, restart your pc, startup steam, then in the Shop (on the client) right click somewhere near the top.
Look, copy link!
now scroll....
and yes its gone. xD

No clue, its a chromium browser bug or something

Edit: Oh, wait... that is a different bug. Related, but different.

Uh yeah, sorry... I can't test if it works or not, because the option disappears from the right click menu. xd

Just want to note that it's magically working again now for some reason.
