Only buy from authorized stores such as Humble Bundle.
Regarding XP: Yes, you can gain XP by key activations because they count towards your games owned badge.
Also:
Please be aware that the AppID of Spacewar is often used to pirate Steam games which is grounds for an account suspension.

sites also change, some go bad, some bad may turn around their behavior and become good. steam does not need to nor want to be responsible for giving you a link to a bad site, nor do they want to be policing them.
There is no way for Valve to know who an offical seller is. It need to be maintained by hand. So some genui keyseller will be missed on thelist, while some old keyseller may end business and the domain is snatched by shady businesses.
The publisher, who gets the keys from Valve is the one to decide where he wants to sell them. To be somewhat sure, you need to check the publisher for the list.
Not Valve's job to police those sites, it is for you research - https://www.scamadviser.com - when you come across sites including those listed in the link i provided.
If you wanted a list of the scam sites, it'd be impossible as it'd be larger and immediately outdated as they came and went, as is the nature of scam sites.
Reason I'd rather have list of the un-trusty ones like i said at least I would know the actual ones that should be steered clear of.
Think everyone of you missed the entire point I was trying to make. I use 2 sites thats it and i trust them humble and fanatical. thats it so argument we having is actually kinda pointless in the end.
isthereanydeal?
That absolutely is legit yes. Used them many a time.
All you'll get is confirmation from us regular users.
And it isn't what you might think it is. Isthereanydeal is a site that basically just is a portal for deals all over the sites on the intenet. But they do not tend to include those scummy sites.
So again, if you're unsure, Green Man Gaming, Amazon, Humble Bundle, Fanatical, GOG, and so - just stick to those that they list and ignore those you ain't sure of.
Simples.
A site it "legit" and "trustworthy" because they buy the keys sold directly from the developer. Those sites who are key markets, get their keys from unknown sources.
As Valve does not get anything ,or make any money, from sale of keys, they are not going to have a list as they want you to buy from Steam.
what did my 1st post say quote it so maybe it will stick this time
I know this but wasn't what i was trying make a point of it's ok. I was just trying figure out why i was being quoted but they was being contradictory.
