Every time I play any game in Steam my mouse cursor will teleport to the sides or the corner of the screen. I noticed it before and it wasn't that bad but now all my games are unplayable. I don't why this only happens in steam. I am using windows 11 lenovo yoga 7 laptop and a wired mouse. If more info is needed I'll give it, just please can someone help. I can't play any games with my mouse teleporting.

  • Make sure the "disable when external pointing device is plugged in" option is set in the Windows Touchpad settings.
  • Disconnect controller or any other unnecessary peripheral you happen to have connected.
  • Try connecting mouse to another USB port.
  • If you can, test with a different mouse.
edit: Changed order so most likely solution is first on list.

Do you have any other ideas those didn't work

  • Do a full virus scan
  • Update all drivers
  • Connect directly to USB port--don't use keyboard or monitor or any type of USB hub.
  • Open Command Prompt or PowerShell as Administrator and type:
    DISM /online /cleanup-image /restorehealth
  • After process finishes type:
    SFC /scannow
  • In Device Manager uninstall the Mouse driver. You may need to reboot.
  • In the Device Manager disable Touchpad
  • Be sure that "Mouse Keys" is turned off
  • I would try turning off "Enhance pointer precision" in the "additional mouse options." Turn it back on if it does not help and you prefer having it on.

Did you try another working mouse, or test your present mouse on another computer?
Sorry, can't think of anything else at the moment.

Other crazy ideas, are you playing in balance mode so pc is struggel with resoureces, try Full performance.

ps.
Laptop is know for to many things ongoing and you can taste the missing performance as things like that feel like a game lag cause the issue, don't forget i learn this on a older laptop, then its was caculating a cancer workunit.

I could even trigger a No internet connection with steam doing boot, because, my pc was so busy thats it fail establising connection in time to steam.( atleast i know what cause this. )

And in top of this make sure Laptop is update at whatever Brand support place name you have there.

ps.
And all this is your own fault for lack of information, about what laptop and what are you trying to play.

clean the bottom of the mouse, mine was doing it before and aggressively wiping the sensor area off fixed it since it was being caused by stuff setting off the sensor any time the mouse was lifted

Do you have a controller plugged in at the time?

Whenever I have my Xbox One controller plugged it will often make the cursor jump. It depends though but I've not managed to track down why.

So if you do have a controller or other device plugged in, try taking it out until it stops.

I have never used a controller either plugged in or through Bluetooth on my device. This is not a hardware problem because it will still occur regardless if I have an external mouse or just my touchpad on. I have turned off my touchpad before with no mouse, yet it still occurred. Thank you for the ideas.

Try using a different mouse and see if the same issue occurs. If it is the other mouse, it is a hardware issue, if it happens with both mouse, it is a software issue.

You can buy a cheap wired mouse at CVS or Walmart if you live near one. They sell them there for less than 5 dollars each.

Ok. That is a software issue. Go to the makers of the mouse website, and ask them if there is a firmware update for it, or ask them for help. They maybe able to help you with your issue.
