Steam crashes/freezes with YouTube
I'm surprised this bug has been on steam for this many months.
Opening any tabs with youtube embeds in the pc app browser (not in game) will permanently freeze the steam browser until you close it completely. The only thing you can do is launch games.
Includes the preview links when posting youtube videos and any greenlight page

It crashes on Windows too. Not exactly a Ubuntu exclusive issue.

OP: While not a solution, you could try opening those links in secondary windows. That way they don't freeze up the entire client. (MMB on links, like threads containing the embedded YouTube -link.)

To watch Steam videos from community hub,you will have to watch them directly in your computer browser or while being on Steam overlay otherwise it will continue to freeze Steam client for entirely.
Is incredible how Steam service is going so bad since October 29th got past. After that,Steam client started all this issues,it must be the end of Steam for sure !

I meant you use a secondary window, like this:

Notice how my primary Steam window isn't on that hub at all. Mid-mouse click the hub for example.

That way should it freeze something, it'll freeze only the secondary window and not the whole client.

But that would remain the issue in not being able to see annex videos on Steam client anymore. Not only that, like Steam navigation through game forums, the rollout is much slower and yet they haven't done nothing about it.I tell you that,Steam is dieing for sure.

I'm still having this issue. For those that are as well, just open task manager and stop the Steam Client Webhelper. That should unlock your steam client and you can access the community and the store again. It shouldn't crash Steam but if you are concerned, save and close all games and make sure you don't have anything you want to lose open. I do it everytime, it doesn't matter which one you close but be aware if you chose the wrong one, you can close a chat window.

This thread is going on a year old and now there is a new method that may help...

Go to Steam then settings then Web Browser. Delete Web Browser Cache....top button. Click that and wait for Steam to refresh. Test Youtube vids on Steam again.
