Install Steam?

OK. I clicked on Install Steam, then saved the file. Now when I click on the downloaded file, nothing happens. Absolutely nothing. Doesn't matter whether I click on "Run as" or "open". Neither does anything. The file is there, 1.3mb but it will not install. Does anyone know why?

Press Ctrl-Alt-Delete and start the Task Manager. Make sure there are no Steam related processes running -- If there are, end them and try again.

How would I know what a Steam related process is?

A steam related process will likely have "steam" located in it. For example, Steam.exe is the Steam Client. SteamStartup.exe might be the installer, so on and so forth.

OK. There's nothing in processes with "steam" in it.

Then try restarting your computer, and then try the installation exe again.

just did support on that a few days ago. WinXP 64 refuses to run many installer files. including steam, flash20, openoffice4 ... and many more...
