It is an online payment method that enables consumers to pay online through their own bank. In addition to online merchants, other organisations that are not part of the e-commerce market also offer iDEAL.
--------------------------------------------------
i don't trust such 3rd party payments at all like Gcash.
those are not secure enough at all.
and such 3rd party payments are also not classified as "banks" in the first place.
yours is a different problem from OP.
and don't hijack threads and spread misleading information.
- 23:35 paid my game using iDeal
- 01:37 mail from Steam something did go wrong (ignored this)
- 05:03 mail from Steam thanks for purchase
So it did take like 5,5 hours for the payment to get processed.Like i said in earlier post its just damn slow again...
♥♥♥♥ happens using iDeal on Steam sometimes.
Yes you can contact support if this happens, but i recommend NOT doing that because it won't speed anything up. All they do is cancel the purchase so you get your money back as soon as the payment is processed. So it takes even longer and you have to do the purchase again.
@no154370: iDeal is the most used payment method in the Netherlands, and Dutch people often forget (or don't know) it's not really a direct payment method and there is a payment provider between it..
Please don't reply to me if you don't know what you are talking about
You should talk to the payment provider instead.
you best don't anyhow comment if you don't know anything at all.
you never explain what your problem is exactly.
and then suddenly jump in and state
1) support solve the problem for me
-----------------------------------------------------
in other words, your post can be taken as a "troll" post here.
and can be taken as misleading others post as well.
for years, there have been problems between iDeal payment company and Steam Platform.
it turns out that iDeal payment company can only be used to make payment on Steam Platform through PayPal.
in other words, Paypal is the middleman for iDeal Payment company.
-----------------------------------------------------------
this shows that iDeal Payment company can't make purchases on Steam Platform directly as Steam Platform don't recognize them.
iDeal Payment company is not a "bank" like Visa, mastercard, american express..........etc.
--------------------------------------------------------
next time, go use a Credit Card or Debit Card and make a purchase directly on Steam Platform.
unrecognized 3rd party payment company that Steam Platform don't accept won't be processed at all.
-----------------------------------------------------
iDeal Payment Company is not recognized internationally and worldwide at all.
it is ONLY recognized in netherlands.
p.s i went to search over the web browser for all information before making this post.
Gcash and ideal are both supported payment types on Steam.
They just have tons of issues that keep on happening.
Sorry but this information is false.
The payment provider used is Global Collect BV aka Worldline Digital Commerce, they do not only handle iDeal but also creditcard payments from the Netherlands (creditcard payments are not an direkt payment method either-besides it doesn't matter how you pay Steam there is always a middle man).

PayPal is a different PSP and has nothing to do with it:

I think the info you did find on the web does date way back from the time Steam did not support iDeal. Yes back in those days you could pay Steam using PayPal, which did support iDeal.
1) yes
or
2) no
only those in Netherlands are allowed to answer this question.

IDeal is a payment service, not a payment provider. As such it cannot even be contacted.
It is like receiving an internet connection. Internet provided is the service. You cannot contact the internet when there is a problem with internet.
IDeal is used by a payment service provider, specifically (registered under the name) Global Collect, which nowadays has a different official name. Global Collect is based within the netherlands. Since the service IDeal is for the dutch (and surrounding area) and the service user is also in the netherlands, payment is usually instantanious.
It's a debit payment method, in other words, money is immediately send from a bank account to the payment service provider (global collect), which then sends it through to Steam/Valve.
Valve's system takes about 20 seconds to see the payment went through properly. This is because they need to wait for global collect's check as well.
The 2 hours notification is heavily exaggerated; however... after 2 hours the payment is going to be assumed 'failed'.
This may not be truly the case though...
If WorldLine (who owns Global Collect) has issues in their servers, then you'll have to wait till they are done with maintenance.
Next you have the Payment Server Queue on Steam, which prioritizes Credit type payments (such as creditcard handling, etc.), because of the way Credit Card payments work. (They're a loan, a promise, under contract, etc. They need to be humanly checked, cannot be fully automated, etc.)
As such, when Steam is extremely busy, such as during the Summer Sale, you may need to wait 8 hours before they realize your payment went through.
Why? Because IDeal is completely automatic. There is no need for human hands or anything.And you're still in line waiting for all those 100s, 1000s of creditcard payments that do need human hands to make sure... e.e;
On the other hand, a credit card payment is, on the surface level (for the end user) instant, because of the complicated backend. They're given a product before sending money because of a promise.)
So you can think of it this way: You're really paying, they're not yet paying. Even though you're the nice consumer that cannot scam steam, they can.... and you need to wait for them even though they're already enjoying the product.
You'll notice in reality, with many things, when you do things most morally correct that you're not going to get the best service unfortunately.
Anyway the reason is garantee. Due to the creditcard's lower trust, they have to check a database to see if the creditcard owner has always kept their end of the purchase agreements, etc. Then they get the feeling of a garantee that after a month they get the money. (but people can still scam Steam.)
For some odd reason though debit isn't trusted, even though they already have the money.
A downside is, if anything does go wrong, Steam will need to send money back rather than the credit card company sending it back.

You can read about how it works
and yes, it is up to them on how it works since they are the transaction delivery provider;
IDeal is just one of the services they use / utilize, which has no provider, only an overseer.
Yes, it is direct. It is the same as an accept-giro or manual bank transaction.
IDeal is a service your bank provides that fills in the transaction form and sends it to the right address.

(Am edit: to reply with some commentary)
https://store.steampowered.com/stats/support/
That isn't IDeal's blame.
(in case you didn't read my text wall) You are put in line. You need to wait till the human hands handling credit transactions are done. IDeal is fully automated; so they're not going to scout the servers for you up front.
but due to the systems, the way they work, they won't give you the product till the line is done and they send the server and OK about your purchase.
You can only blame busy-ness, but the service works as it should.
Direct Payment means Debit.
It means Money is taken from the bank, and a payment is made "at the time of purchase". It doesn't mean no one handles money in between.
Even when you pay at the shop, the money first needs to be delivered to the company's actual financial department before they receive it into their pockets. So a company is hired to send someone with a highly secured truck to take the safe filled with money there, and then later to a bank where it is transformed into a digital format.
In this case, the man in the middle isn't a money delivery truck, but Worldline.
