Being stalked/harrassed by an aimbotter/wallhacker in an old game.
I am being harassed/followed constantly by an angry/psychotic ex-BF in an old game called Team Fortress Classic. If I play on my primary account, he uses my friends (who happen to be his friends as well) to track my whereabouts and joins my server within 30 seconds of me joining a server. He then proceeds to hunt me with an aimbot and wallhack merely to ruin the game for me and try to get me to leave.

I recently set up family sharing so that I could use a new STEAMID to play TFC. But he also knows my IP address and now looks for that before continuing to stalk/harass/cheat against me.

Is there anything at all, any resource I can contact to have this harassment stopped? It's out of control and I still enjoy this *extremely* old game and would like to continue to play it.

I briefly thought of paying for a VPN just to mask my IP address, but I'm new to that, and I don't really know how much money I want to invest in avoiding this person. He's really just not worth the money.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Uh I'm pretty sure he will be VAC banned soon.

If he's make threats towards you, you might one to get the police envolved. Contact Steam Support to get him Vac Banned. And stay away from multiplayer games until he is.

Go to his profile and block him. The matchmaking servers will no longer place you in a game with him.

Do you have a static or dynamic IP Address? If it's serious, consider contacting your ISP to change it for you.

If he's cheating on a game such as Team Fortress Classic, it will likely VAC ban him sooner or later in the next wave.

Plus if your friends are actually friends - then tell them not to leak your whereabouts to him.

They aren't leaking it, he just views their profile and then looks at their friend lists to see when I am on TFC, and as there are only about 7 really active servers, it's easy to find me.

My IP address is static. I may have to contact TWC and ask for a new one. Thank you for this recommendation. It just sucks that I can't even speak in games anymore because he'll find out it's me. I can deal with this to snipe another day.

I did try the ipconfig /release /renew bit with rebooting my modem, my address is definitely static.
Report his profile for harassment and cheating

If you have profile visible only to friends, your ex BF cant see, if you are playing or not.

Block him, report him and be beware, because he is lunatic... If this problem will continue, try contact Steam support or even police.

I am sorry for you. Good luck.

Just for informative purposes, his profile is set to private, and I can still see when he is connected to TFC via my friends. If I click my friends' profile and then look at their friend list, it shows what game he's playing. You can't see what server he's on, but I can see "so and so is in game, team fortress classic" So the private profile setting won't prevent him knowing when I'm in game.
You mean he has big level on Steam, so he is on right side of your friend profile? Or you mean when you click on your friend friends and you see them all and you see him there what he is playing? Sorry fot bad english. What level on Steam are you?

Tell your friends to stop being friends with him? Only reason he would show up on those list.

CyberGhost is a free VPN, not sure if it's good or not though.
Sorry if I'm late and if you already have fixed the problem.

I am a steam level of 10. I mean that even with profiles set to private, if I click on a friend's profile and look at their friend list, I can see [Psychotic stalker ex bf] is playing TFC. It says it right on my friends' friend list. In a game this old with so few servers, it's very easy to find where someone is playing when they know you're playing TFC.
Yeah, you see him, because he have not private profile. But if you will have private profile, he can not see you. But he can run game and find you on server, of course. Just set your profile to private for only your friends and wait few days, if it gets better. Or maybe think about your mutual friends, maybe one of them is supporting this psychotic stalker...

To Engie Turtle: He's been hacking for at least 5 years now :P So I think that hope's out the window. He always develops new ones himself. (he's a server moderator and all)

To StaticCode: He did technically make an indirect threat to me IRL, but it was a comment about being 'tempted' to murder me he made to a friend of mine on steam messaging. My friend was kind enough to say "He doesn't live in your state, does he? because... this... [linked the conversation]" I don't feel like I am in harms way currently. Even though yes, he does live only 5 hours away from me right now.

To tmwfte: I will block his profile for sure, but there are only about 7 servers that are still active, and I don't use matchmaking to find games. I join directly from the refreshed server lists.

I appreciate the feedback, folks. If anyone else has some suggestions, I'm all 'eyes'.

Somebody writes that they are "tempted to murder you" and that's not a huge red flag?!?! Cripes sakes, get a restraining order on this nutjob at the very least.
Forcen Mar 12, 2016 @ 4:13pm
Call the police and tell them about this murder threat..
Seriously, what if he is not joking?
You know his name and your friend has records of the conversation.

Even if the report leads nowhere it will be there for future issues, he would get a record of being reported for stalking if he continues.

he will find you just by observing the 2 dozen servers that currently at the time of writing this have players on it, so he wouldn't even need to check common friends. i might be incorrect on this one but i remember hl1 engine games do NOT use the steam profile name as ingame name, so just change your ingame name to something else.

if your profile is friends only or private you should NOT appear online on other friendslists.

you cannot find players via ip and he probably does not even have yours and uses above method to find you. otherwise where shall he get your ip from? that could be only malware on your computer or a device in your network.
on most ISPs, unplugging power from the modem for a few minutes will result in a new ip, check whatismyip.com before and after you do this.

completely ignore him, air, every action of acknowledgement will trigger him to continue.

Seems like the best option for time being would be to simply not play Teamfortress classic as the dearth of servers will simply lead to him finding you. Also, you should really file a police report if he's making threatening statements.

you can pray he gets hit by a bus on a crippling level.
