How are people knowing my Steam account name?
First off, my steam profile:
https://steamcommunity.com/id/AfraidMonsters

I just played a match of dead by daylight, the killer and I have an argument in endgame chat.

Then as the argument goes on he says "lets look you up"
and shortly after he says that, he says my steam account username in the endgame chat.

This is not the first time this has happened. In 1 or 2, maybe even 3, other arguments on games or on steam they'll bring that out for some reason. as if its some dirty little secret... like wtf?

but I still want to know how they even know it or found it out.... It's literally supposed to be private, steamrep and steamdatabase etc. don't show it for all I know and have checked; I googled "how to see someones steam account name" and every result just says you can't.

so wtf? how are these troll losers finding it out and then stating it during steam or game arguments as if itll melt me?

does anyone know how they even know it?

are you able to find it out, after I gave you my steam profile link?

The private account name is not public in any way. Only you and Valve are supposed to know it. Which is why Valve doesn't make it publicly available in any way.

It was me, I deleted it because I didn't read the first line of your post where it says your custom URL.

There shouldn't be any way to find out your account name without you giving it out.

then I don't understand how at least 2 trolls arguing with me have found it out. I mean the match in dbd literally just ended, and in seconds he had my account username after saying "lets look you up".

There is one place someone could find your username, and that is if they had access to your email account. Emails from Steam always contain your correct login name to help assure that the email is actually from Steam. It's possible that the information is listed somewhere out there like most stolen data tends to.

well I doubt this random guy on dbd had access to my emails but maybe you're right about the second thing.

maybe my steam id has my username listed with it somewhere shady. that's disgusting if so.

my steam account was broken into once or twice, years and years ago from scams. like over 5-6 years ago.

I still have no idea how that loser killer on dbd would find it out so quickly though... like wth.

Have you ever had your account name as your profile name previous? If so, that's an easy find. Other than that, if you've leaked old pictures of your client interface before Steam changed it to show just your profile name or if you've been compromised in any way then that's the only other ways.
The author of this thread has indicated that this post answers the original topic.

I checked my steamrep historial data. none of those profiles names were my account name.

I could maybe see me accidentally showing my steam username on the steam client, on a youtube video if I ever did do so,

but even then, no idea how he'd get to my YT, go through my vids and find one where it shows my steam client;therefore my username somewhere on it, so fast.

It's at least relieving someone here was able to find it. and tell me how. ty.

I figured that was maybe a way, but still... no idea how he'd get to my YT and find a specific video where that's shown, so quickly like that. in endgame chat he said "lets look you up"

and I mean seconds later my account name was said.

So idk. maybe it's what the other guy here said, and maybe it's listed somewhere shady...

Maybe the user knew of you previous and just wanted to scare you. Your YouTube is linked to your Steam and it can take just minutes to stumble upon something like this especially if users are obsessively unhinged with this sorta thing.

"obsessively unhinged" is the most perfect term for steam users and dbd players I've seen someone use. lmfao.

anyways thank you for all of your help.

"clueless when it comes to keeping personal information personal on steam" is a better term for steam users like yourself.

Actually, that is true for pretty much anyone on the intetnet that was born after the internet became common. The amount of personal information on linkdn alone blows my mind, actually.

So, you quote someone mentioning your real steam name so more people know now? :lunar2020thinkingtiger:
