I keep getting friend notifications even though I've turned them off
I have this friend that is really into modding the games he plays, so he'll often test new mods. That apparently involves opening and closing the game constantly to check whether his mods are working correctly or whatever. The problem is that i keep getting a notification every time he opens the darn game even though I've turned them off in the notification settings. They're very distracting HELP

the friend in friendlist -> rightclick or downarrow -> manage -> notifications

if checkbox is set, it will use what is set in: Steam settings -> notifications
if checkbox is not set, it will use the settings right there available.

note that sound and toast are different settings. toast is the actual box that pops up.
grey/left is disabled, blue/right is enabled.

for the friend: invisible and offline stati in friends prevents everyone getting notified.

I know where the settings are and I've turned them off in there. The friends says that the game he's currently testing apparently needs him to stay online.
If you did the settings, you should not see any notification about games started

If its only that friend, compare the settings to those of the other friends where this does not happen

It's not just this friend, I just used him as an example because he's the only one that keeps opening and closing games
Then tell the settings you have. Maybe the problem can be spotted.

Then you probably need to contact support.

Did you ever figure this out? I now have the same exact issue

Nope, I've had to just turn game notifications off for all my friends, as turning them of individually still doesn't work.

Also, I contacted support with this and I don't remember exactly what was said, but it was something along the lines of: "We don't know why your settings aren't working, they should be, we'll look into it. We're closing the support ticket, goodbye."

So yeah :/

This thread was quite old before the recent post, so we're locking it to prevent confusion.
