"You have an account alert"

The title message has appeared in a yellow box at the top of my Steam client today; I do not recall seeing it yesterday. Hovering over it changes my cursor to a pointer as if it was clickable, but clicking it does nothing.

I've been to https://help.steampowered.com/en/ and looked through the options and tried searching for the message, but none of them seem to apply here - as far as I can ascertain I am not locked out of participating in the Steam community or from playing any Steam games, and there's no purchases I don't recognise in my purchase history.

I have no emails from Steam (outside of purchase confirmations and wishlist-on-offer notifications).

Rather confused about what's going on and what I should do.

The message is not visible in browser. There is no relevant notification when I click into notifications, either via the Steam client or via browser.

Make sure the popup did not open in the background. There has been reports of such things happen.

messages marked as being read by you will not show up there.

as it was yellow, it was nothing that restricted anything and of informational nature. most likely removal of a product

The account alert opened up behind the main window. That has been a bug for a few months.

As for the alert itself, Valve did something yesterday during maintenance that sent out account alerts to all older VAC/game banned accounts again, regardless of how old the ban was.

Same here never seen this before and I have a 17 year old VAC ban and nothing else.

Because account alerts now aren't the same ban notices you received back when you were originally banned.

for anybody else coming across this thread in a panic:
an "account alert" can also be something completely predictable and harmless.
Like a playtest version of a game being removed from your account after release.

just to update this thread for yellow boxes, i got it after next fest and it was removal of demo access. the notif box opened minimized so i couldnt find it at first.

Similar to above, I recently cancelled a recurring subscription for some game DLC. I was notified that the remaining time had expired with an unclickable yellow box at the top of the screen and a minimized popup that I had to mark as read.

Have this when logging into Steam this morning, browser login shows nothing. Very confused as the notice does not seem to be clickable nor is there an 'on_hover' that gives any idea what the heck this is about. =/
