Also, you're crashing, but you're not sure why?
The game and windows both have logs for these things. Put your PC's specifications up and show the crash report if you don't understand it yourself.
For your old laptop I suggest looking through the Event Logs in windows when you run the game. If that doesn't help you can use a third party tool.
As to visual C++, install the 64x variant. Usually you don't need that other one, but it usually comes with the x86 variant as well. (most modern computer programs run programs using the 64 bit system)
Edit: Common reason for problems. Outdated drivers. Make sure at least you GPU driver software is up to date.
