why is my steam app taking up 150 GB of storage

My SSD is pretty much full so I need to clear up some space and my settings app says the steam app is taking up 153 GB of storage while it says I only have 2 things installed using steam, which should add up to about 4 GB.
I have tried clearing my download cache and it didn't help much.

I'd post pictures but I don't know how.

does anyone know what the issue could be?

Whatever I say, someone will come in and tear my support answer down. But what you should do is track down where all that storage has gone. I would check the steam/steamapps folder.

Find the folder, find the solution. My thought at first was two instances of Steam, but meh, that cannot be the issue.

Anyways, my answers were better, but these people tear me down all the time so I no longer really think about solutions like I once did.

We cant see what's on your hard drive.

Install a tool such as TreeSize or SpaceSniffer and point at your Steam directory and you can see exactly what is taking up space.

It could be temporary download files, the installed games could be far bigger than you think you may thousands of screenshots, icon cache, mods, etc.

1. shutdown/restart pc
   
   
2. steam > settings > downloads > CLEAR DOWNLOAD CACHE
   
   
3. steam\steamapps\depotcache > DELETE FILES
   
   
4. in windows use "cleanmgr.exe" and clean everything, also system files and shadow copies { WIN+R > cleanmgr > enter }
   
   
5. do an exceptional defrag { WIN+R > dfrgui > enter }
   
   
6. maybe also use ccleaner portable[www.ccleaner.com] and clean up your machine..
   
   
7. restart pc

what windows displays there may not be correct.
look it up with fire explorer.

With that out of the way, get a copy of TreeSize (or something similar, I'm too lazy to look up alternatives) and have that check where the space goes.
