Windows 11 - Friends List not connecting on startup
Hi

Not sure if this is related to Windows 11 (I'm guessing it is) or if it's a Steam issue. I don't have this problem on my Windows 10 PC, but it's happening to my Windows 11 laptop. Every time Steam loads on startup, the Friends List never connects. But if I reconnect manually, it does. Tis very weird. I've tried various things, but nothing seems to work. I've tried looking up guides online, such as deleting the cookies/cache, adding commands to the executable, deleting the Steam folder under User > Local, but nothing has worked. Any ideas?

Ask Steam support, why because where is no way in hell a new system like win11 can be help by steam users here, sure i can say you have security issue, but again im sure steam support might want to know why it dont work before that OS take over most steam user as primary OS then we buy new PC and OS win11 , im sure they dont want every steam user with win11 complain over steam dont work. no matter if this is a steam issue or not. security and app dont work could in the future be seen as that app problem. ( my point is they need to try eliminate whatever it is with MS and its security. not sure any helper here will or can cover 1 billion steam account or just the active steam user thats still many millions per day. )

and just because i said that , still dont mean you read other post here, laptop is not seen as best pc ever they have reduce cpu cycle , and its your problem if laptop throttle its cpu resource, and as you said it retry and then it connect, i told this before , i can take all cpu cycle and make steam fail in connection this is know as 3ways handshack that fail. you can tell them that, not sure that will help you but it also point out steam has requirements and need free cpu cycle or is will get a time out. ( i can also say you system is to busy to handle the process while other things startup, there is many way to address the problem, all depend how you look at it. )

gl with steam support.

if steam think all pc is idle and doing nothing , then they have no clue in how ppl make pc works today, they do many thing hence multicore and task is busy. ( again another way to explan why things can go bad. ) dont forget we as user might know this, not so sure then you are a Client that think im the only thinghy run and im a master of the world, sure i might slap steam here, and thats the point, not so sure user has a fault here then you can reconnect then your pc is not that busy. ( sure you can make delay startup or manual start steam up thern system is idle, and how will you explan this to 1 billion steam user, yeah thats right you get the point here.

gl with it make steam ticket.

and we cant help you, only ppl with the problem can contact steam support and make ticket with it,

my condolences if you chose to read this

you already have determined that it works on your win10 rig, maybe the account-related files on the win11 system are messed up.
do you have an alt account? that would be the easiest way to see if its a account-related thing, again, not with the account but with the files that Steam manages for the account on the system.

otherwise, you can try:
exit Steam
backup then delete .\Steam\userdata folder*
start Steam and login.
see if it still happens, also restart Steam multiple times and confirm it does not happen again.
if that didnt help, while steam is not running, reapply the backup so you can get back to square1.

*the folder contains primarily cache files and some configs. removing some of them may cause inconsistencies and f.e. may invoke cloud sync errors where you have to pick which save files to use

Thanks for the suggestions. I think I'll have to contact Steam Support about it as nothing appears to be working. :-\

Dont forget i can do that in win10, and that will not help you on win11 other then we can see a little clue, pc is busy then things get timeout. or as coder say did nor respond in time and DC or as coder say keep alive or connection failed.

i only notice this myslef thanks to 100% CPU core is so in Cancer research, or i will never had noticve it. ( its not even a game issue or steam issue, but yet they get effect by busy pc or CPU's/cores.) reduce my task then it work as it should. ( this just dont explan what is going on at your pc. ) and now you understand how complicate this is, and so hard to proof other then your do same fail with First time connection. ( im sure it work if you wait and system is rdy or idle ) again it require you have skill to make delay start up or manuel start up then system dont do anything.
