How do I fix this? Tried restarting the client and using the steam browser but I can't change my real name in the 'edit profile' section.

I solved it in the following way.

1. Close Steam, make sure it is not running in the background; if so then close it.
2. Open a browser, go to the official Steam page and log in.
3. Go to profiles and try to make the modifications (it worked for me)
4. Close the browser and start the Steam application.
5. Go to profiles and you should see the changes.

browser and the Steam client are displaying the very same website if you look at your community profile or try to edit it.

As I said I had the same problem and when I did it like this I was able to edit it without any problem, just try this and see what happens. It may work for you, it may not, but the fact is to try.

"the fact is to try" doesn't even mean anything, that makes no sense. I think you meant "it doesn't hurt to try."
