Looking for a game title...

It's a game I played years ago and I was thinking of replaying but I cannot recall the title...about the only thing I recall is one of the missions is where hostages need to be saved from a petrol (gas) station via stealth, sorry but that's all I can remember. Oh, it is a FPS.
Not a lot to go on I agree, haha, but someone might recall it.

What year and how old was you, try see it as we also go to then it was,

no game company logo ? ( sounds like one of them Rainbow 6 title , dont know why just feel like it ) alot of rescue, and no i dont recall gas station

"Ready or Not" has a level where you need to rescue hostages at a gas station.
But that game is still fairly new.

Thanks folks...umm looking around 10-12 years ago...not Ready or not...may have been one of the Clancy ones - before they went mostly online...good tip to start there

I THINK it might be The Sum Of All Fears - but Steam version is not available in Oz - I do have an old CD version somewhere - wonder why Steam won't make their version available?

Most likely because it's Ubisoft.

Tom Clancy properties are licenced to them and because they would have to pay for that licence, it likely won't have enough sales to warrant it.

ahh, ok thanks! They sold the CD version here though so I'm a bit surprised they don't allow the Steam version.

Licenses expire, they have to be renewed to be allowed to continue selling games bearing that license. As Crunchy said, it might simply not be worth it to renew a license for just a few possible sales.

Yes, too true! I did send off an email to Ubisoft anyway asking if they would ever consider it (an Oz release for the old game).

I could go the VPN route but that's not the right thing to do I don't think.

FWIW - I got it running in VMWare with Windows XP, but I cannot get it out of a ridiculously small window. Ahh well

hypervisors like vmware's products can be put to full screen.
if you can enable the game to run in full screen, putting the virtual machine in full screen should solve the issue.
but keep in mind that you may need to lower resolution (so that the textures vague out), otherwise it may look pretty weird and old.

I guess if you need a hypervisor you probably run a windows version that is too new.
You could also consider trying linux. Apparently it can run old games quite well.

The main issue with VMWare that it's still a virtualized graphics card which lacks tons of features needed for gaming.

Thanks everyone - the mouse unfortunately just skips around all over the place, and while I can select options etc using the keyboard up/down arrows the keyboard "enter" button does not work. ESC works as does ctrl/alt but not enter...very weird.

I might just give it up as a hopeless cause - seems Steam have pretty much every other Clancy game title available EXCEPT this one haha!
