Well it either means that three virus checkers are recognizing three different things as false positives, or that 53 cannot detect one of the three viruses that are contained in the file.

The virus is probably some variant of Win32.SaleStealer that activates couple times a year and makes purchases on your credit card for games you will never play.

Did you actually download the setup in the official steam website?
Cathulhu Apr 17, 2016 @ 8:17am
Never heard of Cyren or Fortinet. McAffee on the other hand, notorious for false positives. It even says itself it isn't sure it's malicious.

What is the antivirus program that you use ?

EDIT..As the good Cathulhu mentioned, McAfee is on the list.

Yes. Try it if you want :p
It's probably false positives, but I found it funny three AVs are currently flagging it

Well if it is steam then for sure that those are just false reports.

Thanks. Never heard of the other 2 either. Good to know about now, though, for future cases like this and other issues that may come up.

There has been atleast one thread about it some days ago, it is false positives, no need to be alarmed.

Hi, I have to reinstall steam on my new notebook and checked it before via virustotal, too. I get the same result like the thread opener since the last couple of days, I downloaded the setup file again for every check. I won't install steam, if they don't fix it. I already informed virustotal and Fortinet but not Cyren and McAfee (too complicated). I'm not amused. :steamfacepalm:

Regards from Germany.

It is a false positive. There is nothing to "fix" because Steam does not install a virus on your computer. See any other threads here just now other than this one ?

No. Because OP has a false positive.

If security software exists because they were able to keep you all safe,
there wouldnt be anyone making virus anymore.

The scenario you describe most likely would include a virus that isnt detected yet.

Hi, I contacted Steam Support yesterday and hope to get an answer soon. Funny that one has to create an extra account for the support site. Well, I will keep you informed.

Regards
