Is my account actually ganna be deleted or is it a scam?
Need help here, so this guy sent me a friend request way back (and i mean way back). And just now as im writing this, he sent me a message saying " i accidentally reported you for having duped items and the admin wont *Believe Me*" and saying stuff on how i need to tell the admin that it was fake. it kinda weirded me out cuz why would the admin not belive the guy that reported it and would believe the guy that got reported. but that thought was at the back of my head, i was in a panic. so i added this guy, he messeged me, nothing suspisous. he said he will check my account and after doing so said that i have a pending delete of my accnt (something like that). so i said the report was false. he said to make sure he needs my trade link. i thought to myself, hes gnna inspect it through my trade link and what not. so i sent him my trade link. then he sent me a trade request at that point all i saw was a trade offer for all my skins in csgo. i got skeptical, chatted my so called friend, he told me to trust him, but i dont wanna. the admin then messaged me he will return all my items back after 2-3mins. but then what if he doesnt? he gave me 10mins (he said the offer was available for 10mins) and if i dont comply, my accnt gets deleted. and within that 10mins, i was searching things on how to prove hes an admin. couldnt get my answer. so i kinda trusted my guts and i didnt give him my inv. now im here sitting at my chair waiting for my accnt to be banned. will it though?

100% a Scam.
p0tat0fr3sh 16/fev./2019 às 21:05
is it?
Hanomaly 16/fev./2019 às 21:06
Yes this is 100% a scam. They are liars. Your gut instinct was correct.

There are loads of posts of people losing all their items to these fake admin scams.

Yeah, you did the smart thing. First, Valve will just do things without warning. Second, what the hell would someone want with "duped" items that's gonna get you banned? It's like someone offering to hold onto a gun you just murdered someone with...no one outside of gang members is that loyal :P. Your account is safe. Tell the guy to stuff it.

Valve will literally never do any of that.

Period.

Fake.

Your next step is to report the account from their profile and let the real Valve employees deal with it. Don't worry, real Valve employees have access to all of Valve's systems, including chat logs and yes, inventories. There is simply no need for anyone at Valve to ask you to do anything for them.

As usual, I would rather suggest to have some fun with this scammers and waste his time than to just "block and ignore" (which doesn't mean, you shouldn't report him along the way). As long as you keep them busy, they can't focus on others.

How often does one get the chance to speak to an "admin" after all. Complain to him about the new chat. Demand, that he gives some cheaters a VAC ban. Or removes the VAC from a friend who "really totally didn't cheat". Tell him to give you back items, that were stolen from you at an earlier point. Cancel his trade offer, then ask him why your mobile authenticator says, that you aren't friends (making him assume, that your inventory has been hijacked and someone else is about to steal the stuff, he wanted to steal).
Tell him, you have most items that are valuable stored on a safe account, but are not sure, if there are dupes among them. You could send them to him to check - if he could just remove the 15 days hold on that account for a moment...
Tell your "friend", that the admin is really angry about his xth false account report this month and now threatens to ban him instead. You try to keep him busy for a few more minutes, but don't know how long you can hold him back, so your "friend" should better send you his items right away, so you can keep them for him to send them to the new account, he will have to create. Of course the "friend" and the "admin" are the same person, so he won't fall for it, but it will be fun to see, how he talks himself out of it while pretending not to know the actual content of the other conversation.

So much room for creativity, and I feel like I'm just getting started. Try to keep one of these in mind for your next scammer or make up some of your own.

Trade Scam FAQ

https://support.steampowered.com/kb_article.php?ref=3415-WAFH-6433

Valve employees will never ask you to trade your items to them; this includes users who claim to work for Steam Support.

Users claiming to be a Valve employee, accounts asking to verify your items, and users who send you a message which insist you need to trade your items to them for investigation or security reasons should immediately be reported for trade scams.

100% fake, don't fall for it. This been happening since last year. Before this they make photoshop images, now it's a gif, or video format to try and trick you.

scam scam scam scam. Trust your gut instinct. Steam has access to all the servers and backends, they don't need to have you trade the actual items to know what you have and what youve been doing with them.
Pattern of scam:
Bait, story, steps
