DOOM
DOOM, very low FPS, completely unplayable
I am suffering from FPS so low in DOOM that it is completely unplayable. The FPS is very low in the menu, as well as the game itself (like 2 FPS). This has happened to me as well in Rust. I don't know much about computers, so please bear with me...

I am running Windows 8
GPU: GTX 850m driver 361.91

I have tried switching my global graphics setting to use my GPU by default, didn't work. I set DOOM itself to use the GPU, didn't work. Not sure where to turn, I don't have another computer to play this on.

you are well below the minimum gpu spec of DOOM which asks for a 670 minimum.

And the Rust Recommended GPU is a GTX 980. No specific minimum listed, but if "recommended" is that high, then that is important to note.

RECOMMENDED:
OS: Windows 10 64bit
Processor: 3 ghz
Memory: 16 GB RAM
Graphics: Nvidia GTX 980
DirectX: Version 12
Network: Broadband Internet connection
Storage: 10 GB available space

I actually downloaded the latest driver for my GPU and I'm running it on medium setting just fine. I was holding out on this option because it didn't help me out in the past with Rust, and I'm really unsure why I was running at 2 FPS in the first place... Oh well, problem solved

Glad you got it working. Your laptop is well below the minimum gpu requirement though... Guess it's pretty well optimised.

That may be the case now, but wait until alot is going on in the game, like explosions and game PhysiX, among other graphical intensive processes in the game. You may have to lower your settings even more but hey, good you got it going so far. Thanks and good luck to you.

Further performance questions about games are best answered in the game's own forum also, just so you know.

i have the exact same problem with both games as well. it doesnt help that im above the minimum requirement and meet the recommended requirement but my brother who has the same laptop as me has doom running perfectly on it.

its working now just update your nvidia and it should be fine.

I had the same issues: <1 FPS in menu, couldn't access game at all. NVidia released an optimized driver specifically for DOOM (as well as Homefront: The Revolution, and Master of Orion). Go and download this driver: http://www.nvidia.com/download/driverresults.aspx/102383/en-us

I'm now hitting 40-50 FPS in-game on two GeForce 460s

Updating your GPU drivers is the number 1 in the step by step troubleshooting guide.

When you have a problem and you didnt updated your drivers for 2 years. Don't think further. Go update them. :P
