How do you remove the icon for steam from your task bar/system tray?

Not just temporarily exit out, permanently make it so it doesn't show up and the only way to turn on steam is through the program.

Guess I mean the system tray then lol. It's the small icon, by the volume control and time. I'm on windows 7.

steam settings -> interface -> uncheck "run steam when my computer starts"

click the arrow, click customize...
when the window pops up find steam and use the drop down to have it "only show notifications."

I went to startup in msconfig and unchecked steam client, would that do hte same thing wuddih, or should I undo it?

Basically, ticking the box under Steam > Interface adds that entry on msconfig's Startup -tab.

I'd still untick the box on Steam's side too, if I were you.

I sometimes just go to the control panel and just uninstall it and that issue stops.
