Confusing Multiplayer Tag
I am interested in multiplayer games, games which I could play with my friend.
After looking at the store, I cant help but to ask what are the differences between all this category...

1) Single Player
2) Multiplayer
3) Online Multiplayer
4) Local Multiplayer
5) Coop
6) Online Coop
7) Shared/Split Screen
8) Cross Platform multiplayer.

1), 7) and 8) are pretty straight forward so I understand.

But the rest are totally confusing.
For example, a multiplayer game is either <Online multiplayer> or <local multiplayer> right? why is there a need for the category <Multiplayer> then?

Does games that connect via local area network (LAN) equals to the coop category?

Whats the different between online multiplayer and online coop?

Would Appreciate if someone could help explaining and list down some example.

1) You get to play with yourself
2) You get to play with other people
3) You get to play with people using a internet connection.
4) You get to play with people using splitscreen.
5) You get to play with friends using splitscreen, working towards the same goal as opposed to fighting each other.
6) Same as 5 but online
7) Shared/splitscreen you use one screen to play local coop
8) Cross platform allows you to play with WIndows, Mac and Linux OS users.
hmm maybe 4 is get to play with people using a local area network?

Yeah, probably that too.

Also, what's the difference between "local multiplayer" and "splitscreen"? Isn't that basically the same thing?
you know what a LAN is?

Yes, but that's not what the tag stands for. Most games that have local multiplayer tag are don't have LAN multiplayer.
You necro'd the 3.5-yr old thread. Tell us then, old wisdomous one, what else is there for local multiplayer that isn't splitscreen?
LAN is included in local multiplayer though, per definition.

it is quite funny that you wanna be so specific, yet you overlooked that this thread is from 2016 and the system was changed since then to be able to be very specific.

"Streamlined Setting Player Categories"

so if you have issues with certain tags on certain store page, contact the developer/publisher of certain product.

No need to be obnoxious, we can conversate like actual adults.
you're the one wanting to split hairs about the definition of local multiplayer, so what is it then?

Xandeta eredeti hozzászólása:
It's not that funny, because the "multplayer" tag still exists, and it's not very informative.
The system enables them to be very specific but also enables them to be very vague, like only tagging it "multiplayer".
you also shouldn't rely on a single source of information to make an informative decision on the game. many of the tags, by definition, are vague because everyone seems to have a different definition of what they include, as we can see by your efforts to define what is or isn't "local multiplayer". it's bringing attention to you that there is a local multiplayer. do more research to determine exactly what that is since it's going to be different for you than it would be for me.
