True.

The box is very distinct. With as many unboxing videos as there are it doesn't take much for someone to find out what they need to look for. They don't need to read the shipping labels.

I understand the box is distinct, but I believe the devices box be placed inside another box or wrapping? I recently ordered two guitars online, and the guitar boxes were inside some fancy plastic shipping wrap. The delivery drivers wouldn’t have known there were guitars inside.
The box is very distinct. It is not reboxed or over-packed.

Also, when your job entails handling boxes all day, you get used to what is in what box. I work in a fullfillment center and based on experience I can almost guarantee what you're going to find in different plain brown boxes based on shape, weight, size alone.

Valve is only shipping a Deck in this one specifically sized, distinctly shaped box. As soon as you see one, you'll see them all. Then, if you're deciding to steal one, you just have to wait for the right opportunity.

Ahh I see. If Steam Decks get stolen I Hope Valve will make the boxes less distinct. Either that, or release the Deck in retail stores rather than online only. I am from Australia so I am still waiting for the Deck to be released over here.

the shipping box in use has a series of icons on one side. the rest is neutral.
2 of those icons those icon might make the content identifiable.
portal 2 companion cube and the dot with a half circle (Deck logo)
it is mostly a gimmick how to handle the package.

outside of the US, this shouldn't be an issue and in of the US, its unlikely to matter what's printed on the box, porch thieves will steal everything and if its really the delivery drivers, they have enough time looking shipping labels and in addition, they have to be of a younger generation.

its should be a marginal number of Decks stolen, that is just blown up by social media.
get IGN or someone to contact Valve to ask about how many Steam Decks were reported stolen. that might clear up things .. if someone is at it, also RMA numbers.

probably depends on EB Games to be officially avaialble there, they are also responsible for other Valve hardware in AU.
by chance, do you know kogan, catch and clicksmith?
they are allegedly selling decks on their online stores ... most likely scalped though.

They responded pretty quick to that, in their own way...

I am familiar with Kogan, although I haven’t purchased from them before. I will take a look at their Steam Deck prices and see if it’s good. Thanks for the heads up.

Mine just got stolen today. Same exact situation. The box was delivered completely empty and it wasn't even a clean cut. I caught everything on my nest doorbell camera, the driver plops it on the ground, and not 2 minutes later I'm outside picking it up and immediately noticing that it's as light as a feather and the side flap is just hanging out. I could have seriously just turned it upside down and the top would have just flipped open It was that loose and clearly empty / open. There's absolutely no way the FedEx driver did not know that this package was completely empty when he handled it and delivered it. Even the picture that he took as proof of delivery shows the tape cut open and hanging off of the package. So like I said all this was captured on my nest doorbell meaning that I have footage of the entire event including me immediately picking it up and flipping the flap open in front of the camera and showing the camera that it's completely empty. Despite supplying FedEx with all of this evidence, FedEx has indicated that it's going to take an entire week from today at the soonest in order to come to a resolution which may not even guarantee being approved, and then up to 3 weeks after that in order for me to receive a refund. This is completely unacceptable. I have contacted Steam support and they have indicated that I just need to go along with FedEx and their procedures.

I received an empty box. Case was in side but the security tag was cut. Wasn't wrapped in plastic like in all unboxing videos. Box with charger was empty as well. For those who say drivers won't know what's in these boxes, it says on label what it is. Plus the hard drive size. This is so frustrating. FedEx was just like contact Valve.

Which is the correct course of action. Valve needs to initiate the claim with FedEx to recuperate the cost of the stolen Deck. Valve would also need to know that yours is stolen so they can send out a new one.

I can sympathize with the frustration but Valve will make good on the Deck. Just work with them and be patient. You'll get yours.

I suspect my faulty one that I was returning for replacment was stolen. Im being patient during the investigation. 1. There return label was never used and they gave me a new tracking number2. The box one to the wrong state with a weight of 1lb( nothing in the box), im hoping to get a replacement soon. I went to the UPS store and called the main UPS store. Its definitely frustrating ( its been a month). My advice, watch your items like a Hawk and question anything that seems fishy immediately.

One edit, we had no issues getting our Steamdecks. I was the unlucky one who had to return it. Steam Support has been very transparent so far. Im just hoping for the best.

Mine was just stolen. Pretty sure it was the delivery guy. I checked within a few minutes of delivery and it was gone. I'm on a quiet street, never had this happen. And I was working from home. He didnt even ring the doorbell. I'm so pissed.

Some of you were lucky to get a replacement. I wasn't. Mine was just stolen. It's no mystery why they're being stolen. Valve has the contents showing the steam deck and the amount of gb right on the shipping label. There have been many complaints about this. You can Google it. Yet, Valve continues to list contents on the label. You might as well put a sticker that says steal me. I contacted Valve 4 times and was told there's nothing they can do for me. I even made a claim with FedEx. All they had to do was send me a letter waiving their claim to it or make the claim myself. They refused to do either. I got the same response each time that there is nothing they can do. I get that this might be the exception and not the norm, but it is happening, and people are losing a lot of money. I also get that it was most likely stolen while in transit, but it is still the company's responsibility to get their products in the customers hands and FedEx has a procedure in place for them to file a claim to get reimbursed so they can send me a replacement, but they refuse to do so. That is horrible customer service, especially for such an expensive item. This is not the way to treat your customers, and now they've lost future business.

Mine was just stolen yesterday by FedEx. Came home from work to an empty package with no contents. Box had a clean cut. Still waiting to hear from Valve support. I know it's probably not a widespread issue, but regardless, it's still happening. I would recommend anyone who purchases a steam deck to do will call on their deck if possible.

did you get a replacement or a refund ?
