Taxes when purchasing (Canada)

The page was updated to $21 and I failed to take the appropriate screenshots(to show how the price totalled out to $20.41) and even if I did it wouldn't matter as I did not purchase the game and who would cause problems for $2.30. Though it is concerning to see!

Deleted the screenshot that I was able to salvage since it doesn't show anything more than how the price was.

I want to purchase GTA V which is on sale currently for $15.75 CAD.

Using a tax calculator online https://www.canada.ca/en/revenue-agency/services/tax/businesses/topics/gst-hst-businesses/charge-collect-which-rate/calculator.html

It came out to be $18.11 CAD... [REDACTED] hehe scp

After using the calculator online: $18.11
What steam is asking for in total: $20.41

I understand sales tax and sales tax where I live is 9.975% in total with GST (5%) it's 14.975%.


I'm sure I am simply missing something but being that [REDACTED] are becoming 100$ practically in Canada I am cautious nowadays.

*Please explain to me what I am missing here and what the additional $2.30 CAD is for?

Make a ticket about your purchase, in the "I have a question" section, I think support may have a straight answer for you.

I haven't purchased yet it's that I want to make the purchase but am confused as to why their is an additional charge. (I want to buy it just it's bothering me now lol)

As well I just noticed the page updated and now sits at $21 but I took a screenshot showing how it's $21 crossed out with the $15 underneath sale. I just don't know how to upload it or if I can upload it to the post.

Something tells me it's doesn't matter anymore cause it's $21 now but still how they could put $15 and then charge still $21? I am guessing someone updated the page...

That doesn't show taxes. The checkout page is where they show taxes applied.

No but that is the price, if you use any calculator the tax in Canada (Quebec) is 14.975%. They also passed a law making it so Steam charges Sales Tax... Which is QST (9.975%).

When you use that % you get $18.11, but they were asking for $15.75 and still wanting to charge near $21. That's what doesn't make sense to me.

the actual price should be 21 CDN before tax.
there is no cheaper option to buy the game.

Unfortunately, it didn't click in my head that I should take a screenshot until it was too late of course. I managed to get what I showed you via the back arrow on the top left. I feel like a numbnut for not taking screenshots. This is I think my first post on the forums ever lol.

It's frustrating because the price is now $21 and still says 65%. What's worse is I can't show you it was like that prior as well with $15 at 65% off. Which again is frustrating and now what was once $15 now $21 is now worth $24 bucks roughly when you actually go to purchase. Which makes sense now if you add the taxes.

Honestly, I think this thread is done because someone clearly fixed the price to $21. Unless someone wanted to take legal action for $2.30 I don't think anything will come of it lol. I am just sad cause I wanted to get the game and now the bloody thing is even more expensive haha.

FUDGE ME! worst part is I am going to probably still get the game lmao. Appreciate the help and trying to check what's going on.

Honestly you're probably right. The taxes probably were mean't for the $21 but the page didn't update the visuals yet... :/ Appreciate the help thought :D
