Same game on 2 different drives
So after I wanted to move my elden ring from C: to D: I ended up with a copy of the game on each drive. When I go to browse local files through the steam library, it appears that steam is running elden ring from my C: still. I want it off of my C: but don't know if its safe to just yeet the folder off my pc

Well, you can exit Steam fully and it should free up the original files. Assuming you've copied things properly you should be free to remove those original files.

The question is did you do it correctly? By which I mean copying the appmanfiest files across too so Steam knows where to look?

YOu shoudl use the move function under steam settings > Downloads, as that's the easiest way.
Right click on the game on the left side bar, in your Library. Click "Properties..." > Local Files. Move Install folders...

That is how you correctly move a game.

Sounds like all that was done, was a copy and paste of the game's files.

I did move the manifest and nothing happened, I eventually redownloaded the game (again to my C: disk for some reason it didn't let me choose and then used the move function afterwards thats built into steam

And the manifest, removed the manifest from the C: disk as well, but somewhere in the move to the D: that folder got dropped to a 0KB folder. I deletedeverything and reinstalled the game completely in the end, luckily my save files were on the cloud

For the future, don't mess around like that as it's easy to mess up as you've experienced.

Just use that thing under steam settings to move in future then it not only makes it easy but does it properly. I move games around all the time on three USB hard drives.

For the futre regarding save games, use Game Save Manager too (www.gamesave-manager.com) It's a well know piece of software that basically scans and collates all your game saves for you so all you have to do is click those you want to back up.

Saved my bacon no end of times.
