144hz monitor problem, need fix !

Hi everyone!
I've got 144hz Asus monitor, when changing from 60hz to 144hz only connected with DVI-D I got report on my screen "Cable incorrect, please use DVI Dual Link cable", but cable still connected... When I connect monitor with graphics card HDMI + DVI-D I can get 144hz but my screen have problem like "lower resolution". Can someone help me fix it ?

You need a display port cable for 144hz.

if you actually have the correct dvi dual link cable(8x3 +1 pinning) the limit is 120hz @ 1920x1080. 144hz only with non-standard timings which you might have to setup prior. you can't get much more out of dvi.

displayport is the more convenient solution

one of them may not be dl

brand/model of the gpu?

use gpuz to find out if you dont know and do not want to pull the card

and that monitor has 3 variants
VG248 qZ/qE/qG

DP cables are rated according to their resolution and refresh rate so you buy one that matches what you need. 1.4 is the latest which goes all the way up to 8K at 60Hz and of course will do lesser resolutions at much higher fps. 2K at 144Hz you would need DP 1.2
