Downloads wont download/ stuck infintely stopping download.

title says it but for the last few months now i have had this issue where games when they update either just flat out stop downloading infinitely or even worse is when they get stuck stopping download infintely meaning going offline, exiting steam, and just stopping the download to download something else or just try to find a way to fix the issue becomes impossible and closing the game even through task manager cant stop steam from running meaning you cant reopen steam as it thinks its still open. this has been honestly become A ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ SERIOUS ISSUE as i have had to uninstall and reinstall steam and the games im trying to update as uninstalling the game and reinstalling it after reinstalling steam is the ONLY thing so far that has seemed to fix it with the times it fixed itself with reinstalling the game was stuff i have no idea how to replicate nor do i think it was really anything that i did but just dumb luck....

I am having the same issue and I don't know what the deal is. Someone described the patching process as taking a lot of extra time after the game has downloaded, but my games seem to do this every time lately.

one possiblity i have heard is that your steam clinet ♥♥♥♥♥ up the download and thinks it already downloaded a portion of the game or update when in reality it hasnt at all leading to it being stuck thinking its done but in reality it isnt.

omfg ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ ♥♥♥♥ you steam... if ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ just happened to elden ring ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ again... i had uninstalled and reinstalled and than the first update to drop ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ killed it..... and whats worse is steams support branch sucks so much ass that i cant specify what my specific problem is and so im just stuck having to uninstall and ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ reinstall every time it breaks in ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ future.....

Post info about your setup:
PC (type, hardware contents) (NIC, PSU Watts, etc.)
Where is steam installed, where is your library, any special options? (HDD/SSD, different drives?)
OS (windows, linux, macos, android, etc.)
Wireless or UTP to modem/router?
Modem/router type/brand?

Any special software we need to know of? NIC control software (killer ethernet control panel for example, firewall, etc.)
Anything automatically updating without concent?
Any special settings we need to know of?

Is power manager set to High Performance?
Any USB devices connected while downloading. (including virtual drives such as OneDrive, RAM drive, etc.)

I'm also having the same deal with Elden Ring. They forced an update I didn't need - lol, that's what I call "automatically updating without concent" [sic] - and it's just stuck on "stopping download" at 0 B/s at about 60%. I have 500GB + free on my SSD. Nothing on USB. Wireless.

Yep same issue here. I even took a screen snip because it showed a total patch time of 11 Months and 6 days. Then I click pause and it gets stuck "Stopping Download".

Hey, I found a fix! In your downloads in the top right next to the downloads info (network/disk stuff) there's a settings wheel, click that and it'll send you to a downloads settings place, then click "Clear Cache" and wait for Steam to restart and that will fix it. It works every time!

that isnt working now it just says forver stoppping the download to clear the cache so it isnt working eery time for me

Second unless you give details we can't answer you effectively.

Could be a load of issues.

Even with that it will not close as it still will try to stop the download before restarting even if i hit Clear Cache.
