2 different account names?
I created this Steam account in roughly 2016, and for obvious reasons this name is not great. In 2019, I changed my name, but I have noticed some issues with the name change. Logging into steam, I cannot login with my new name, and when launching games it registers under my old steam name.

Help? As time progresses, I more and more want to have this name erased.

Profile name is not the same as account name. Profile name is what is publicly displayed and what everyone sees. Account names are private as long as you don't share it and is what you use to log in to your account. The account name cannot be changed after creating an account due to the way the account IDs are structured. Remove the links. You shouldn't be sharing your account name publicly.

You have an account name and a profile name. The account name cannot be changed and is a unique identifier of your account. This is what you are asked for when you log into Steam. Your display name can be anything you want, even something used by someone else. You cannot log into Steam with your display name. Although it is unadvisable to make your display name match your account name, you can do so. But if this is your decision, remember that it is the account name being used for login and identity.

That is changing your profile URL, nothing to do with your log-in/account name.

I mean I have 2FA, but sure. Having it replied to will keep it up regardless.

Ahhh. So this means I can't get it changed no matter what? Yikes...
I assume I can do literally nothing to get it modified either. Thank you for letting me know though!

Correct. The log-in can not be changed. As others have said, you can only change the display name. You found you can change the URL on your own.

Yup thanks. Kind of annoying there is no way to change login name. Especially considering what you saw was my name lol

You're the only one who gets to see it anyway. Well, there could be edge cases of some support dude seeing it, but that's it, really. The account name is private for all practical intents & purposes.

I play Jackbox with my family and am very at risk at some point of them seeing my name as I launch. Obviously the odds are quite low though. But chances are, no one will ever see that name.

The only way anyone sees your login name, is you sharing it with them, otherwise there no way to see your login name.

I understand you perfectly, many years ago i was playing on consoles, it was a time when i had quite serious health problems, my brother told me: When you come out of the hospital there is a gift for you.
He gave me his old pc and created this account for me with my data, but he used a crappy id that doesn't make any sense.
It is not important, but i don't understand why can't change the id, what's the problem?, for example Sony on Playstation allowed id change.

They have to replace the current login system they have for over a decade to do what you're asking.

Also you don't login by name on PlayStation, or Xbox, you use email to login, so the ID was nothing but just a display at best even though they limit who can have said name on PS3, and Xbox OG/360, and they choose to make a new system for PS4, and Xbox one which more people can have same, or similar names such as adding hash tag numbers that Xbox does.
