Please help, lost a copy of a game
I have mistakenly activated the same game twice in the same account, meaning that I lost one of my copies to my own account.

What are the possibilities in my case? Am I screwed?

Thanks!

You cant activate identical copies. Was one of the copies different, like with a extra dlc or something?
Eldin Oct 13, 2019 @ 5:40pm
You can't activate same game twice.
If you activated something, you'll see it here

Thanks to everyone answering.
Yes, I know I am not supposed to be able to activate two identical items, but I confirmed with the vendor that both of my exactly identical licenses have been activated. Only one of them show activated in the link that Eldin posted.
I contacted Steam once, but they told me they only help people with Steam code cards....

I am troubled as I wanted to give that code to a friend.
Any other ideas??

Which games are we talking about, please ?

You get an email when you activate a code. Check them, and compare the account names in the email. I don't care if you think you only have one account, do it anyway because we get people posting here at least once a week who insist they only have one account and oh wait turns out they somehow made a second account and didn't realize it. Happens more often than you might think.

You do? I must have activated a thousand keys on my account over the years and never got a email for it.
I only get emails when i buy a game directly on the Steam Store.

@The Giving One: I am a Bloodstained backer, and I received two keys for that reason.
I wasn't sure why I received two keys so I thought they might be different things and activated both, reassured by the fact that "I can't activate the same game twice on Steam", but it somehow bugged out and it let me activate both.

@Teksura: I have never received an email for activating a game, only for buying a game (billing).
Just like Ogami is saying.

And I have only one Steam account, I have been using it for probably more than 10 years. That's for sure. Plus, as I said before, I activated both codes the same day consecutively, so no login in or out twice.

There is usually an explanation for these situations, and most often there was something different about the content, if you are sure that there is no other account involved.

A soundtrack, a language........anything at all different about the content and it would allow you to activate both keys, pretty sure.

While viewing this link

There are no additional activations. There is only one Bloodstained and it's DLC (which is a third code).
But that day I did receive both confirmation prompts and, as stated above, checked with the provider and they confirmed both codes had been used.

Also, the description for both codes in the site is identical:

"Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night on Steam releases on June 18th, 2019. For more information about the game's release date, visit the Steam Store page."

And it's separate from the DLC. I guess I am screwed after all :(

Looking in the game forum, there are some posts, after a quick look mind you, about DLC and a soundtrack and something about an issue with them. Not sure if that is relevant but feel free to search around and see if there are any new posts about a similar situation :

Just like Ogami is saying.

Interesting. I've never not gotten one. Try checking your spam folder. It'll look something like this:
