Is there a way to quickly switch between 2 accounts in steam?
I want to be able to quickly switch between my account and my brothers account, but cant figure out how to do so. Am i missing something or is there no feature like this at all?

bpm, big picture mode. just heard that switching is more fluid there and actually exists, but i never used it myself. the normal client just has a few botched methods you can do with batch files.

Steam account security doesn't revolve around account sharing (which is specifically doesn't support or encourage), or making switching between accounts easier. And arguably putting in a username/password and maybe a Steam Guard code isn't that difficult.

I'm using Steam in the big picture mode just like a console and lack of option to switch users without a need to enter password every time is detrimental to user experience especially when you compare it to PlayStation or Xbox. There are other family members using this computer to play games.

Still no improvement?

The best way I think is to have separate Windows logins for yourself and your brother, and on each login you would have your own desktop, documents folder, and Steam account. Both can share the same game installations.

To switch, you would just log out of Windows, and your brother would log in. Quick and easy.

Now I see that I'm replying to a year-old thread that somebody resurrected. (A couple of times, a month ago and just now.) I'll still post because I think the information is pertinent. The best solution in this case actually has nothing to do with Steam at all.

I found this 3rd party software which is open-sourced (source-code can be seen and reviewed by everyone or you can build one yourself based on the provided codes). Its been ~3yrs since it started and has grown since. It started with just Steam with no GUI, but now it supports most of the platforms(battle.net, Origin, EA Desktop, Epic Games, etc.) and with good and functional GUI. With just a click, you can now quickly switch your account.

Its well documented, so it should not be difficult to install and use.

Hey, so im necroing a bit but steam recently (atleast i think so, didnt see it like 2 days ago) added a quick switch between accounts as an official feature on the beta client. Just wanted to point this out if you still need to switch between accounts. :)

In Big Picture Mode, yes. They added the quick switch feature back. As long as the device is already authorized, you don't need to enter in your info or guard.

Yep but now they added that feature to normal view mode if you dont like big picture (like me), if you are opted into the steam client beta it will say to either switch accounts or log out. So yeah just wanted to throw that out here, pretty cool feature and works better (sometimes in big picture mode i had to put in my password again after logging out) than in big picture from my experience.

It is not possible to switch from your brother's account to your account ;however, You can switch between accounts if you log out of yours or your brother's account first.

Seriously, you need no Big Picture Mode or third party software anymore. It already got released and works with the regular Steam client release. Just go to Steam->Change Account and you can switch to all logged in accounts without password or anything. Like it worked in Big Picture Mode already, but without the hassle to switch to it prior to switching.

This has changed since this thread was created in 2021.
