why does the steam deck preorder time gets delayed further?
sorry, i have difficulty to understand, but how does a big demand delay the preorder/purchase/shipping time? do they want to send out the steam decks all at once? if not, how does that work that more ppl preorder one, the more it gets delayed? it started with december 2021 now its q2 2022 , and i was with the first bunch of reservations on the 16th july

edit: sorry for the confusion, i t should be "why does my delivery date gets further delayed" ..because it started at december 21 and ended up at q1 now

You do realise these have to be produced? They don't magically appear once someone has pre-ordered. The users who got in their first get the first batch and then the people who are behind in the queue have to wait for more units to be made. Valve aren't going to fund and hold 15m units in one hit for instance.

ok, how does a bigger order delay their production? are they not producing their products by now... you understand? just like xbox series x and playstation 5 delivers everytime a small portion is produced. sorry you could not give me any answer

Playstation 5's are produced to order by retailers, not directly gamers. Sony also has huge production chains in place whereas Valve is essentially in-house. We're you around for the Valve Index? They were constantly producing them, shipping and then fulfilling later orders from the production line themselves. They're not going to make 15m units and then dispatch the lot on one sweep.

yeah seriously, i dont understand it tbh. so lets say they were expecting 50k orders and 40k were ordered and delivered at the end of the year 2021.
so but somehow more ppl "preordered", how does that toss the first delivery date of everyone else at the mid of 2022? its not just me , but it looks like a whole bunch of gaming websites are also talking about the delay... if you can speak german, try to explain it in german please, maybe its a language barrier. however, i just dont get the idea of bigger order makes a delayed expected delivery by more than 4-6 months

If you had wallet funded upfront, getting it within the first hour would've been possible due to no dependency on payment processors on top of the server lag.

I regret not doing that. Sitting on that Q1 2022 whereas I could've had December 2021. Oh well. At least it's just Q1.

Can't say I'm experiencing that, when I view the page logged in, it says
Your expected order availability: Q1 2022

Would make sense were there more reservations than was tracked initially, but for it to affect you this much further down the line sounds odd.

May sound dumb, but are you sure you're viewing the page signed in?

it changed back to q1 now ...weird, still its a mystery to me why my registration was delayed for a few months. i will keep it for now and if the date changes again i will probably cancel it. its probably true that they prioritized others before me and thats the reason why my handheld was delayed.... there are probably tons of youtubers, gaming websites and other people of the gaming branch who will be among the first bunch of deliveries

There is a maximum you can produce per week. There isn't a magic wand that instantly makes million dollar plastic injection molds out of thin air, nor do assembly lines pop into existence with a wave of a hand. As more units get pre-orderd, unsurprisingly your ship date will go out further as it takes longer to produce new pre-orders.

Any more than you can "download RAM" there isn't a magic switch that "makes more Steam Decks"

When you pre-order an item, physical or digital, you are ordering an item that does not exist yet.
Steam deck is a mix of both- a physical item that depends on software developed to make it work.
The delay may have nothing to do with the number of Decks pre-ordered.
There are dozens or more types of events or situations that can delay development and manufacture.

Development delays happen- programmers can fall behind schedule for any number of reasons.
Software bugs happen that require additional time to fix.
Manufacturing delays happen. (A piece of machinery may break, staffing may drop for any number of reasons, so production efficiency is dropped, there may be unexpected shortages for hardware components or for things like electrical contacts, batteries, the plastic used to mold the cases, etc.).

Pre-ordering a video game or piece of electronic equipment does not always mean the game or equipment you ordered will be shipped on the date that the developers or manufacturers first estimated.
The delivery date given for the Steam Deck was/is given as an estimated date.
"Estimated" =/= "Guaranteed".

sry i think i should ask like this " why does my delivery date gets delayed more, while i was on the first batch on december 21 it took me back to q2 22". i know that more preorders will have a bigger workload, but i should be among the first ones to get it. ive read online that the reason for the delay is a bigger nber of preorders... which is weird...because it seemed like it was "first come first serve" at first...
