How to report moderator abuse on a specific game.
Is it even possible?

Who would you report it to? Steam Support doesn't actually seem to work and I'm about 100% sure the report is going back to the moderator in question.

This moderator is going through my message history in their boards and is looking for ANYTHING that can be considered off-topic.

Like pretty much ANYTHING. Everytime I come back to the forum to discuss the game in question I know I'm going to be banned because they will find something that same day.

I'm guessing it's because they are slowly working up to a permaban to make it seem less suspicious. So by catching "off-topic" comments enough they are building the ban. The first time for off-topic (plus some made up rules) was 1 day, second time for "off-topic" a week, 3rd time "non-constructive" a month. They do it immediately and as fast as I come back.

I'm looking at the game discussion now and literally every other person is saying something that would get me banned. So it's very clear this is targeted at me.

It's likely because my name is featured in a few youtube posts about the game and I am being very ANTI-P2W. Ironically something they are meeting demands that I and others have put out due to pressure that I've helped exerted onto the game.

The worse part is I can not do anything because they are effectively nailing me for ANYTHING. Half of what I see people type out I would get banned for so I'm not sure how much of my speech is being curbed or what they are targeting until I get banned. I'm unable to just talk about the game in any shape or form via Steam and it's likely they'll target my account should I buy the game.

The level of this abuse is insane and I don't seem to have any noticeable recourse.

What can I do here?

To answer the last question, reply the the moderator message. There is an option in there to move it higher up I believe.

Regarding your "issue", simply stop breaking the rules.

Edit:

Sigh....

Just as a point this would get me banned. It would be labeled "back-seat moderation". What you just said would get me banned. So it's not as simple as you think. You didn't even consider that rule when you wrote that but the moderator would use that part of the sentence to ban me.

And on your behalf I would say that would be ludicrous.

Thank you for your poignant and enlightened take. I would still be interested in how to report moderator abuse.

Again thank you for your wonderful response.

Also I see you have experience in bans so I will take your experience into consideration.

You were wanting to know how to "report" a moderator, which I have provided. I have no interest in what you believe is and is not breaking the rules, I simply stated to not do so. It has also been stated to in the topic I linked which you previously posted in that the moderators of game forums can run it as they please. Again, there is nothing here you can do about it, you would have to go to the moderator message.

It's hard not to break the rules when a mod makes them up or finds one that is "off-topic" even when it's ON TOPIC. You are not providing any constructive feedback only a round about way of telling me to shut up about the situation and allow it. Which I take a mild offense to.

I'm not going to take a random Steam forum post as gospel. That makes no sense to me that it would have some form of authority to you.

So again thank you brother, but if you don't mind I'm looking for more accurate statements. Granted a team has control of their own board but if they're not watching their own moderators behavior then that is also NOT a good thing. As they don't know what service or quality of service is being provided not only to the community but to the game developer in general.

So if you don't mind I'm still curious. Thanks.

Poking the hornets nest again and again will only make them angrier, dude.

You know the rules. You've been pointed to the rules. You apparently refuse to follow them.

If this is a game-specific hub, it's not up to overall steam mods to deal with. if you've pissed off game-hub mods, good luck with that. Talk to the publisher.

If you don't want to take statements from random steam users then your original post is deemed completely useless. You can take as much offense as you like with it, I can't control how thick your skin is nor you comprehending the 1 simple step given on how to report a moderator. Best of luck in life, you will indeed need it.

Anything discussing political stuff is specifically against the rules.

All the threads I saw from the links provided were doing just that.

Also, anything that is prone to huge arguments, such as religion and controversial things can be deemed bad to post, too. That's specifically against the rules also.

And no, simply pointing out the rules or the existence of them is not backseating moderation.

Trying to enforce the rules is backseat moderation.

What can I do here?

All your bans are from different moderators, hub/game and global. There is no abuse.

Each of those posts were correctly moderated and had been reported by other users.

If you feel a specific moderator is abusing their moderator status, you report them by their profile. If you wish to contest a ban, reply to the ban message or use the link provided in the ban message to contact support.

To report hub/game moderators, you contact the game's developer/publisher as they are in charge of their moderators.

Profile reports and contacting support through the link go directly to support, not moderators.
