Nope, you will only get points when buying on steam.

Nope

The purpose of Steam Points is to encourage buying directly from the Steam Store instead of using the alternatives.

Only a direct purchase will get you Steam Points.

Valve gets nothing from sales on 3rd party sites.

No you wont you need to buy game in the store or if you buy an in game item

Think about what you're asking here.

What are the purpose of points? To encourage people to spend money HERE so Valve increase revenue.

Now what revenue would Valve be getting via other sites? Nil.

You see the issue?

Steam is sponsoring, and is being sponsored. Steam might sponsor 3rd party websites, those websites might support Steam, about sponsorship i never meant only key shops. As big company as Steam is there is no possible way that Steam is getting profit only from their games.

Unless the store says "Sponsored by Valve Corporation", I highly doubt it, or unless Steams front page says "Sponsored by BestBuy" or something like that - then I very much doubt this.

Sponsorship is usually Party A will give money to Party B, if Party A gets something out of it; such as if someone sponsored a tv channel, they will likely in exchange get to run their ads on the channel they sponsor for an amount of days/weeks/months.

Where exactly is Steam "sponsoring" something that you would then *not be giving Steam money* for it? The entire point behind a sponsorship is to bring money to that sponsor, not to some other party... Particularly not a competitor.

They don't only get profit from their own (Valves) games. They get a significant amount for every game sold on Steam, but ONLY for the games sold on Steam - they work like most other stores that way (think of it as cinemas or theme parks that allow you to bring your own food and drink. They do not get money for food that you bought elswhere, even if you consume it on their ground).

Valve doesn't sponsor any site. Any site claiming as such is lying to you.

Developers can provide keys to 3rd party sites. These are called authorized resellers.

Unauthorized 3rd party sites tend to buy keys elsewhere or even buy the retail game, open the box and put the code into their system. Where they keys came from is anyone's guess, hence why they are cheap and not recommended... just like buying a DVD player that "fall from the back of a truck."

Valve only gets a percent from sales directly on Steam. They do not get anything from the sales on 3rd party sites.

Valve doesn't sponsor other shops. And no, Valve does not get money from keys sold at other shops.

You won't get Steam points for purchases made outside of Steam.

But they don't. That's the point.
