Steam games causing blue screen of death. GOG games don't. What gives ?
Why when only running games downloaded from Steam does my PC crash to blue screen of death ? GOG games don't have this issue...what gives ? I've reinstalled Windows 10 and all related drivers...including GPU (GTX 1080) drivers to latest versions. I've 2 drives with separate Win10 installs too...with separate Steam installs...one drive I just reinstalled Win10 and GForce Experience with latest drivers...both instances Steam games keep crashing my PC. When I run GOG games on either...no problem what so ever. Did Steam release some new patch/update lately ? What gives ?

I had this problem several times 6-7 years ago when I had gt 430 ... The issue was with my hdd and after several bsod my hdd started burning while I was gaming ... This problem gets temporarily fixed if u format c drive and reinstall windows
Well, I disabled the OC on RAM, CPU and GPU...was able to play for like 3 hours without it bombing, but just bombed now :( Guess that's better than before. Last game I'm buying for PC unless not available for Playstation. Certainly last game I'm buying from Steam.

whats more odd that OC ppl never seem to learn.

user and options and lack of skill and i bet you never did a stress test, and recheck then run into trouble, this is the nicest way i could put it, if you translate it to worst then you get the idea.

feel free to screw data up and save game and complain over it at game devs or forum.
have help some and caught alot of them OC ppl before and they all came crawling after and say thx you, pretty hard not to with voice chat,

this is why i reply not even to you OP, more all steam user that did not check own problem for own mistakes.

He also nail it as first option, rawWwRrr ( i bet he have seen plenty of user make same mistake )

Without having hands on the system, I am guessing one of three things, or a combination of them:

1) Your system is unstable due to overclocking settings in the EFI/BIOS.

windows event viewer , no new error msg or difftent one , or have you screw all data up. feel free to install other new game, i just hope you did not harm the OS , then all will be lost
Try SFC / scannow.

you have alot of explanation and check all this. ( burn test to software test )
all to check intergrity of file to what ever , crash log ( windows event viewer )
gl with it.

think I remember now why I started buying all my games on PS4...why didn't I buy this stupid game for PS4 ? Oh yeah now I remember..cause the extra graphics that PC gaming has to offer :( When I get a new PS5 I think I'll tie my gtx 1080 to a rock and chunk it in the deepest body of water I can find.
feel free to do that, this will not help your current issue, and we cant help you with what you have done or not checked for.

i bet you have never check for Driverupdate or BIOS ,most consol user have such things automatic, pc is other way around you job to deal with it. ( check all Brand snd support sites for update.)
( windows update is not enough )

I've updated everything under the sun today save for the bios...i actually did regress on my bios like a year ago cause an older version allowed me to OC a 8700k better. That said I've just pulled my entire PC apart...put everything back in place after cleaning all the dog hair and dust out. Added a tad more thermal grease on the cpu. Blew out the GPU and CPU cooler. Switched the ram sticks around just for giggles. I even pulled the mobo battery to reset bios settings for reals.

Fixin' to fire up Far Cry New Dawn and see how it goes. Fingers crossed. That said even if it works flawlessly consoles in my experience are less buggy...not saying they are perfect...just less buggy. Maybe that speaks to my crappy pc building skills.
If it happens again, post the exact motherboard that you have in that PC, please.
Well, it's not died yet. Perhaps it was a corrupt bios setup and/or overclocking. Will post an update later after I get a few more hours of gameplay.
Turns out it's the CPU OC that was causing it to fail...I put all the OCs back on the RAM and GPU...and turbo boost all-core on the CPU and it works perfectly. I'm sure I'll forget all this in 6 months and be right back where I started.

|Lol, glad you got it sorted. I empathise as I would often do a similar sort of thing. Forget about what I did.

I started just taking notes when weird issues came up so I wouldn't forget, because boy is it a pain in the arse when you can't remember and have to go through the same again.
I've been seeing this warning popping up in my system event viewer when looking at it after a bluescreen "Name resolution for the name steamcommunity.com timed out after none of the configured DNS servers responded."
In about a year it's the 4th bluescreen and I feel like I've seen that warning maybe all 4 times.
This thread was quite old before the recent post, so we're locking it to prevent confusion.
