Steam authentication API reliability
Hi,

I am noticing that the steam api seems to be down a lot these days. Is there any reason for it? And will they fix it? It messes a lot with us as we need it for our logins and it seems to be going down at least once a week.

Regards
Dany

"At least once a week"

Steam has maintenance every Tuesday at 1600 PT, which includes a CDN refresh. That's normal. There have been some anomalies this last week, including extended downtime of the US CMs, but that's going to happen every once in a while with any service. That said, nobody "needs" to login; it's a game platform, not a necessity for survival.

who is "we"?

and i did not have had any >5min issues with Steam oauth/api for months, which should be used as a convenience, not a replacement.

We as in me and the users of the site.

Also, if possible, it should be used as a replacement. Best practice when it comes to security is to not store and passwords unless absolutely needed.

I know about the once a week reboot/maintenance on tuesday, that is also not what I am referring to. Are there different servers and might we just be getting sent to one that has worse uptime for some reason?

Yes. There are different CMs for different regions. Last Tuesday's downtime was longer than average for all, but only the US CMs went down for multiple hours and only the US CMs went down again the next day.
