Why can't I use my emoticons in my product reviews?
Am I the first to rage about this? :feelscry:

I mean from a TECHNICAL standpoint, sure good question.

From the standpoint of someone who reads reviews before buying stuff though... No one wants to see your emoticons.

For every time someone uses it well, presumably for comedic effect... 1000000000 other people will use them in annoying ways that would turn the reviews into an eyesore.

I can't think of any type of emoticon ADD much value to any type of serious, critical writing (such as a review)... So I for one am glad that this feature isn't there.

Steam decision and they decide where its appropiate. Steam obviously thinks the reviews are not a place to express your feelings through emoticons.
There’s already users posting ASCII “art” as reviews, the most infamous of which being the one where it’s two hands flipping off.

I guess Valve doesn’t want people to do the same with Steam emoticons.

Steam is the only webside I know where you have to buy the emoticons you like. And then they even make restrictions on where you can use them on the platform...

For me an emoticon in a review makes the review less worth it. It's the same as people putting emojis/smileys in work mails. I absolutely detest it and can't take the message serious then. So I'm glad we can't put them in there.

Personal note, of course.

Don't want to see a page filled with emoticons for a review.

I haven't actually run across stuff like that yet, but if I do, I know I would be reporting it, I hope others do too.

windowskey + .
for utf emojis

not for the dumb emojis of course, those have no place in reviews.
but utf includes some fine symbols that you can use for custom text structuring and and visual presentation.

Presumably because they don't add anything meaningful that couldn't be otherwise expressed in text.

Actually, far as I know, you can use regular emojis in text on Steam. I've seen them occaisonally. It's just the emoticons specific to Steam games that are marketable items.

Probably not worth raging over.

It's extremely counterproductive to assume that most users are idiots and then offer serious constructive reviews for them. It borders on bipolar disorder. :dumbfounded:

Also, like it prevents somehow all those 1000000000 silly reviews filled with ASCII symbol pictures and etc. 😅

Super. So you can filter reviews that consist emojis and spot the ones written by users with similar vision of the world.

Isn't it better to let them use a cat emoji instead to make the draw it on whole page with ASCII symbols and then report people arund. Don't you agree? 👀

This thread was quite old before the recent post, so we're locking it to prevent confusion.
