Mobile Steam application wants my Mobile Steam guard code to log in.
In order to be able to log in on my desktop browser I need the Guard code on my Mobile Steam application. Which is cool because I have enabled that extra security measure.

BUT to get that code I have to log in to my Mobile Steam application and when I do that it wants my Mobile Steam Guard code. Which is obviously not possible because I can only get that code while logged in to the Mobile Steam application.

It is a broken system. So I am wondering if I should open a ticket to let Valve know or hope they read this message or just don't bother?

Bonus question; what is up with having to re-log in every few days/weeks while using the same browser (or mobile app)? It has been driving me nuts for years.

You sure it's not asking for your phone number code?

You mean the text message (SMS) which gets send to my phone when I log in to an "unknown" browser?
Nope, it specifically says Mobile Steam Guard code. While I'm trying to log in to my mobile Steam app.

This issue is still alive and well, almost 2 years later. My house-mate is having this issue and is ready to blow a gasket over the lack of help shi's been getting from the support page.

This happens when the app isnt the associated authenticator yet. So to login it asks for the code from the currently authenticator.
I had the same issue and made a ticket. They asked for me to prove who I was so I sent them 4 or 5 screenshots of reciepts. I told them I can supply them with dozens more, photo id, and that all I wanted was to be able to trade again. Just make a ticket, be polite, and if you are able, make it sound like you have to much proof to show you own your account. The tech at Valve will reset your password so you will have to re-login on your PC but after that the app should work without a hitch. It did for me anyways, goodluck. Steam support is rather hit and miss.
