different USD to EURO policy on buying and gifting
So I got the steam gift card with the value of $50 on it. Since I live in Europe, Steam made the conversion from USD to Euros and I got €43.88. It really ticks me off that Steam has double standards when it comes to this. So it's perfectly OK to make $1 = €1 when it comes to buying, although €50 is certainly NOT the same as $50, yet when I get a gift, it's automatically converted to the actual exchange rate, so I can buy less games for the money I got. Real smooth. I will spend the money that is now in my wallet, but after that f-you greedy steam backside orifices.

Publishes set the prices on steam but the exchange rate manages the steam gift card wallet conversion.

Thank you for the comment, but I don't believe that publishers decide on $1=€1 when you want to buy a game. GOG has some of the same games that are here and they have fair price policy. If a game on GOG costs $30 and you pay in Euros, you won't pay €30 but €26.41 at the current exchange rate. Which means everyone pays the same. Not like here and on Origin.

It doesnt matter what you believe the fact is the publishers/devs of the game are the ones that set the prices on steam. If they want to make it cheaper in 1 country and more in another then thats what they do. If they want to set 1=1 then they can, if they want to adjust for exchange rates they can.

I know the publishers set the prices on Steam but don't tell me they set Steam conversion policy. Publishers want certain amount of money for the game, and the rest is in Steam hands. If you had a store and sold other people's products, they would ask for a certain price you have to meet to sell them, but they wouldn't dictate if you are going to sell them in USD, Euros, pesos or yens. As long as you pay them agreed price, they could care less about the way you're going to do the selling. Or maybe the Steam is the only company in the capitalist world allowing other companies to dictate how they are going to do their business.

The publisher/devs set the price, if they want it to be a reasonable conversion they can, if they want to set 1=1 they can.
