Terrible download speeds.
Does anyone else have absolutely terrible download speeds on Steam or is that just me? Whenever I download ANYTHING on Steam it takes hours for the simplest games. Even with no one else of the household on the internet, and with every single background program shut down, my downloads still end up looking like this.

Do you have a lower pc? :steamhappy:
Lol, I am a poor college student so it isn't a skynet computer, but I'd like to think for a low budget gaming laptop it's pretty decent. To be more specific my laptop is an Acer Nitro 5. it has an i5 9300H CPU and a Nvidia GTX 1650 graphics card and an single stick of 8GB RAM. It has 126 gb m2 drive and a secondary terabyte hard drive.
Have you tried a download region where users are currently less active due to the ongoing summersale?
For example, where they are sleeping.

The servers are a tad busy at the moment, pushing 1.275 Terabytes per second to the users.

steamstat.us does not show download server activity/availability.

Try some very, very far away from you also. Don't just try one or two and give up.
The more I think on it, the more I think it's just the Steam summer sale. There's probably a whole lotta people buying and downloading games at this particular time so maybe the Steam servers are a bit strained?

So change from where you are downloading from and see if that helps.
I, as a European, tend to use Luxembourg, still in Europe but somehow i always get top speed from there. Even during sales.

German engineering is superior. :steamhappy:
But seriously, thanks for the tip.
German engineering is fine and dandy, but sometimes less perfectionism would do us good.
Or bureaucracy. I mean, just take a look at our current biggest jokes, BER (airport) and Stuttgart 21 (subterranean trainstation).
Just hopped around some American servers, they all seem to suck. About to go i n t e r n a t i o n a l and see if that changes anything. Luxembourg will be first lol
I'm done with my download anyway, so go for it.
Tried a couple places in Europe (Luxembourg, Spain, UK, Sweden), the Philippines, Peru and Toronto. No luck yet. I think it might be something on my end? I don't know, though.
Just to add, in the past I've used real out of the way places. I haven't checked for years, but there used to be an Antarctic one set up for the research scientists up there.

Generally speaking, I tend to go for anywhere that is currently in their night cycle so most people are asleep and choose a country that is pretty sparse and spread out.

And The Giving One is correct here. Sometimes the congestion can get REAL bad where you have to go through loads before getting anywhere.

As we're still in the midst of the coronavirus effects, plus we're in the Summer Sale AND at the weekend, I wouldn't think that's too far from what it's like now.
