Where does the refund money go?
I have a question? Let's say I already have money in my Steam wallet but not enough to buy a game, so I buy it both with the wallet money and with the addition of a credit card. If I then ask for a refund, will the money all be transferred to the credit card, all to the Steam wallet or will they return to their original positions (a little on one side and a little on the other)?

No the wallet funds won't be transferredto a credit card or any other payment method used along steam wallet because that could be abused for money laundering.

But will the money I used from my credit card be refunded to my card?

This might be something that would be explained when you try to initiate the refund request, but this is the only information about how the money comes back that I am aware of :

You will be issued a full refund of your purchase within a week of approval. You will receive the refund in Steam Wallet funds or through the same payment method you used to make the purchase. If, for any reason, Steam is unable to issue a refund via your initial payment method, your Steam Wallet will be credited the full amount. (Some payment methods available through Steam in your country may not support refunding a purchase back to the original payment method. Click here for a full list.)

You might have to wait for someone that has actually done that before.

Ok this I knew but the point is that if I wanted to buy sea of thieves using for example 30 euros from my credit card, then I would like the refund, only of that money (not the ones used by my steam wallet), it would be done on my card so that I can use them for something else and that I am not obliged to spend them on Steam.
Is it possible?

You can of course use both a credit card or other authorized payment method, as well as the Steam wallet, to make a purchase on Steam, when you don't have enough money in your wallet. That is allowed and explained on the checkout page, when you are about to complete your purchase.

But when it comes to REFUNDS, when that is how you purchased the game, I have no idea. Sorry, as I have not ever tried it before. It might be something that Steam will tell you when and if you do this, as otherwise, you might have to wait on someone to post that has done that before.

Thanks anyway for the answer, in case I will ever ask for a refund I will let you know how it went

You might also try the forum search and use different terms in the search. You might get lucky and find something :

https://steamcommunity.com/discussions/forum/search/?gidforum=882959061466924237&include_deleted=1&q=refunds

For example only, that is a search for "refund" but you can refine that if you want.

Well done in finding that. Keep in mind that is from 2015, so unless something has changed, then it works the same now also.

And the good Spawn is a moderator, so aside from him doing that himself, he knows what he is talking about. :steamhappy:

If you request a refund to your wallet, it will all go to your wallet.

If you have requested a refund to the original payment method and that was split between your wallet and your credit card, then the amount you paid with each will be refunded to each. So if you paid $10 in Steam Wallet and $20 on your CC, then you will get $10 back on your wallet and $20 back on your CC.

Keep in mind it may take longer for the refund to the CC to be reflected on your statement then it will for the Steam Wallet to be available.

I was typing up the response when the OP found the old one and linked to it.

I figured as much. The timing was spot on to reflect that. Thanks for helping out. :steamhappy:
