Steam opens EVERYTHING in firefox.
I had to run a game to be able to make this post. Even if I want to view my own profile it opens firefox. How can I change this? Also, how do I change my taskbar settings?

It's recommended to backup your games :
Using Steam backup feature :https://support.steampowered.com/kb_article.php?ref=8794-yphv-2033&l=dutch

Or do it manually by copypasting the content in (?)/steamapps/common/

Double check that .URL is associated with Internet Browser (it's a generic entry, do not set a specific browser)
https://www.lifewire.com/how-to-change-file-associations-in-windows-2624477

Sometimes that gets changed and causes problems with the Steam client.

Or you could get used to using a full-fledged browser rather than the stripped down browser in the client.

The only option I get is ' Internet browser '.

By the way, last thing I did before that happened was to change the library to small mode and launched a game that does not support in-game overlay. I doubt it is related to that though.

The thing is, I can't even access my library because I removed everything from the taskbar preferences for easier game access. Is there a way to bring back the friends, library and stuff? I tried the settings through the overlay while I am in-game but it doesn't give me those options. wtf

I think I'm gonna contact steam support. Has anyone else had this problem?

you probably f'd the browser protocol.

if you have installed Steam in its default path:
https://pastebin.com/MMVFZ3pS
download and save as a .reg file and open it to import it.

or change the stuff manually in your registry.

I checked my values and they look the same. Here is something interesting though, I scrolled up a bit and noticed that there is a .url folder. The values there are blank. I tried adding steam.exe or the steam directory but it didn't work.

.url files are NOT to be associated with Steam. stop trying that.

repeat steps from post #1 and set it to Internet Browser, NOT via the registry, use windows file associations.

furthermore, press winkey, search for "default." "Default Apps" should come up. set your default webbrowser there if it was not set yet.

It is already set to ' Internet Browser ' and I cannot change that. By the way here is a screenshot from the registry folder I was talking about

The first and third sub folders have empty values. Should I leave them as they are?

You should cleanly re-install steam. Installer normally should take care of this.

Thanks, it worked. Note if anyone has this issue : Cut and Paste your steamapps folder somewhere outside the steam folder so your games and saves don't get deleted.
