Does steam offline really not work when offline
Steam come on now I know you’re incompetent but you surely aren’t this bad. This is the purpose of offline mode. My internet is down I want to play some fallout.

Fallout which?

76?

It's an always-online game. You do not have a choice.

Hank, come on now........you can't be this bad at posting a thread describing what your issue is.

You can easily tell this is a user forum and Valve staff is not here, by simply looking at the other threads here also. And reading your OP, you know there is no way anyone can tell what game you are talking about.

Yes, Hank, it matters which game as there are several different Fallout games on Steam. So when making a post for help, please be more clear as to what you mean and what you are trying to do. :steamhappy:

doesn't matter what game. i completely forgot about 76 like most other people and the point is that offline mode does not work when you're offline.

when you're not connected to the internet offline mode doesn't work rendering it pointless which was frustrating.

Just went to Steam in the top left of my client, clicked on "go offline", then went to my Steam library and launched Fallout New Vegas.

Ran perfectly fine, without a single issue.

You have internet. When you do not have internet offline mode does not work. Rendering it useless.

Isn't the whole point of off line mode so you can still play your games when you do not have an internet connection ?

EDIT....................

Just repeated the same, exact steps as above, but this time, I totally disconnected my PC from all internet connections.

And then again, ran Fallout New Vegas from my Steam library without a single issue, while being in off line mode.

Ever consider the possibility that the problem is not with Steam but on your end somewhere ?

Yeah, aside from 76, there's absolutely no steam-side problem running other Fallout games.

What *specifically* happens when you attempt to run it?

Are you running with mods? Are you trying to launch via the Nexus launcher / F4SE, or some other launcher? Because if you do you MUST have steam running FIRST to do that. You can go offline in steam, relaunch steam, and be offline, and then launch NV with or without the mod launcher.

This ain't a steam problem.

because you were logged into your account before when you had internet. If you start steam without internet and play it you cant successfully get to offline mode and play your games. I'm not stupid and I spent an hour trying to get it to work. Google the issue there are multiple forum posts about it.

I think I see the problem here.

Just to check, I did as you said, Hank. I closed Steam down completely, and even turned off my PC. Restarted, without internet connection then started Steam.

Ran FNV. This was the first time since downlading it a couple of months ago. It ran fine.

So yes, it DOES work offline completely.

However, I think I know what your issue is - you've been offline TOO long. You see Steam needs to be online occasionally to check the licences you hold for those games, otherwise this WILL happen. It's somehwere in ther agreement you agreed to.

Yes it does. I had router troubles not too long ago and had no internet, offline mode worked perfectly.

First things first, are you actually saving credentials on your computer? If you don't, offline mode won't work.

maybe you're right i dont know how to explain it. steam won't start when offline and you can't go into offline mode without being online.
