Bug whenever I go into a steam game.

Ok so I seem to have a steam bug, when I am not in game my keyboard functions normally, when I open a game the game starts thinking my shift key is stuck down but only in some cases, examples:

When chatting in the steam overlay with no caps lock on I will talk in all caps, if i hold down shift or press caps lock i talk without caps, but if I tab out of game and go to the chat box from desktop, I type normally.

When in game and I have a key bound to shift I press it and nothing happens, I have to spam press the shift key to get it to work and even then it doesnt work right.

Im not exactly sure when this started, but the only non steam game I have on my computer doesnt have this problem, only seems to happen when i try playing skyim, or dark souls 3, or any other steam game i have tried.

Oh right, I am on windows 7, my Graphics card is an Nvidia GTX 760 and this only started happening in the last month.

Maybe one of these will help, in whatever order you feel like:

1) unplug and replug USB keyboard
2) restart PC if it's a ps/2 keyboard
3) press left and right shift separately, maybe one of them are stuck on.
4) if it's a laptop, try plugging in an external keyboard and playing around with it. Maybe it can help.

Hopefully one of these helps. If not send a response and I'll try to think of something else. :)

None of these worked sadly, tried each of them and the problem persists, im not in game, i type and use shift normally, i go into game, and the shift key starts sticking and acting all wierd while everything else seems to be working perfectly, i cant figure it out.

Like for example, I use left shift as my dodge roll/sprint button in Dark Souls 3, when i attempt to dodge role by tapping shift once, nothing happens, if i spam press the shift key i will dodge role a whole bunch of times in a row even if i stop spamming the shift key, it just goes as if que'd up or something, I'f I hold down the shift key to sprint it works normally but it takes about 2 or 3 seconds before it reads the command.

Also whenever I shift tab I have to press it about 4 or 5 times in order for the menu to pop up, and the shift key acts as though held down whenever i attempt to type in chat or web browser, but if i alt tab out of the game and go into chat or web browser or what have you while not in a game, the shift key doesnt act like its pressed down, only when in game does any of this happen, and only when in a steam game, as tested iv downloaded and tried 3 games non steam, and the non steam games work perfectly no problem, all of them, oddly enough the shift key problem happens if i run smite through steam, but if i run smite through the independant launcher it works fine.

Skyrim is known to have that bug. Even the cursor being stuck in the middle after you alt-tab out of the game.

This started happening after i started playing the Skyrim Special edition, and has sort of leaked into other games that didnt have this problem for years before. Dark Souls 3 was working perfectly fine as of a month ago, and since i started playing special edition skyrim, all sorts of wierd ♥♥♥♥ have been happening to my steam games,

Not to my knowledge, I have never had a control hooked up to my computer. And never used any program that does controller emulation.

Im seriously considering reinstalling steam, I wish I knew were to find the settings and such for keyboards in steam, I have a feeling the problem has something to do with that, like a setting got changed for keyboards and its causing this problem.

Do the SOP on other Steam games - verify game cache. Rest assured, your machine is not defective. Try to browse the game(s) forums maybe you can find a solution there.

I have verified game cache on dark souls 3 and skyrim special edition, about 10 times now, it doesnt help at all. i have been looking in my device manager under keyboards, i have one keyboard plugged into my computer, but 5 of the same keyboard appear under keyboards in my device manager, im almosed positive that isnt supposed to be like that. and I have no idea how to look into this further.

In Skyrim there are mods that fix certain bugs, try to install them and test if the issue persists.

In the device manager, are the other keyboards faded? If so they were keyboard drivers installed which is fine. And be noted that some mouse buttons are recognized as keyboard drivers.

Ok I am now positive this is a sticky keys problem, as in the computer option sticky keys, like whenever i go into a steam game it makes my computer turn sticky keys on, which is causing the problem, is there any way I can force steam to stop turning sticky keys on when i go into a steam game?

Ok its gone remove yours and we are all good, ill be looking into this sticky keys stuff some more, gotta figure out how to get steam to stop turning sticky keys on.

Try these:
1.) Open Control Panel > Hardware and Sound > Devices and Printers;
2.) Right click on your keyboard, click on Properties;
3.) Go to the Hardware tab, select the USB Input Device under Device Functions, and click on Properties;
4.) Click on Change Settings, go to the Power Management tab;
5.) Clear (uncheck) the ‘Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power’.

If the above won't work, the only workaround is to remap the action from the Shift button.
