so, i've taken multiple tests so far and they all tell me my internet downloads at an average of 12mb/s. this itself isn't that good (compared to my friends, at least), but on steam i'm currently downloading a game, and my peak download speed is only 1.5mb/s. now, i've already tried seeing if there's throttling selected in my settings, and there weren't any. i switched the throttling to 10mb/s, giving it plenty of breathing room, but my average is still around 1.4mb/s. i really don't get this.

Steam can show download speeds in MB and Mb. Go to steam settings and tick show download speed in bits per second.

You are getting your speed mixed up by the sounds. 12Mb is around 1.4mbs

ah, i'm aboslutely dumb lmao. alright, so i'm downloading at an average of 11.5mb per second, which is pretty much my download speed. but my download speed is still really crap, which kinda sucks.

yea 8 bits = 1 byte
steam displays in byte by default, you can change that in settings though.
