A DDOS is a distributed denial of service attack, The first D - distributed, means the attacker has access to a botnet. Anyone with access to a botnet isn't interested in trolling me, you or anyone else on Steam.

close steam backup ./steam/userdata folder delete it start steam.

opt into client beta to prevent this issue from happening again.

I have to say I have a similar experience. It sounds stupid but ill explain what happened.

I was playing CoD MW2 when a player joined the game that I have negative relations with (not from playing, purely from commenting and difference in opinion) I was hosting the lobby and using MW2sa to monitor the lobby.

When the player joined he directly started typing and stated that he started a Ddos attack on me. I initially found that very funny and prepared for a match of ass kicking. ^^

I got to about 1 minute (max) of before mentioned ass kicking when ppl start complaining that I was a crappy host. I was hosting several matches already and have a 1Gbps connection..

few seconds later my screen blackens out, I am being thrown out of the game and CoD crashes. I reboot my system and when starting up steam it failed to connect online. So I start it in offline mode and then connect it online. After a few attempts it does but unable to retrieve any info from steam servers.

In essence anything requiring internet connection via steam fails, the offline part works fine. So I logged into my steam account via browser.

My gf also plays and has a steam account. Her account is working fine. When she logs into her account via my computer steam is able to use internet data. When I log my account back its the same problem again. The same story on her computer..

My steam does work online if I login via browser or via the phone app.

So I would say, perhaps give the guy above (and me) here some credit, and if anyone knows anything help is greatly appreciated.

Found this regarding: 'Just to clear things up about a DDoS.

Most people ddos using a website called a booter. A booter is an online server which people just put your ip in & port 80 & ddos you. It's almost impossible to find the IP of culprit unless they literally tell you. Booters encrypt everything, delete logs regularly, host offshore where US laws don't come in play, etc. So you wouldn't be able to report them to the FBI because you have no evidence whatsoever. When your under a DDoS attack, open cmd (or use a program like Commview or Wireshark) type netstat & a flood of IP's should pop up, but it wont be their's, it will be the ip of the booter, which you can't trace.
