Pixel Shader, Vertex Shader, CPU

Hello I just bought a new graphics card specifically to play a new game and I'm disappointed that according to an online system requirements tab I only fulfill the minimum specs. Now don't misinterpret me, I'm fine playing on minimum specs, I've done it all my life but I need to know if these low minimum specs will actually be 'playable' in terms of being able to actually move and do stuff.

The requires Pixel Shader and Vertext Shader 5.0 and I have 5.1. But I'm worried that I seemingly only just qualify in this regard and wonder how adversely it will affect my game? I'm not really sure what they are (despite trying to read up on it). Apparently my graphics card is fine I have a 4GB RDDR5 card and on system requirements tab it says I have 3GB which is also the requirement for 'recommended' so I'm sure I'm fine in this regard.

The only other issue is that my CPU isn't good enough for recommend. It recommends:-

Intel Core i7-2600K | AMD FX-8350 or equivalent

And mine is:-

Intel(R) Core(TM) i5-2320 CPU @ 3.00GHz

It says this is fine to run on minimum which is good but I just want to know if this means playable rather than simply being able to boot up and be unplayable due to lag and tears.

If anyone requires any more information please let me know. The game is Far Cry Primal. I'm a solid gamer but not very knowledgeable about parts and terms so I really appreciate any assistance.

It will have no effect whatsoever.

VRAM is only one small part of a card's performance. For example, a GT 730 with 4 GB of VRAM is massively worse than a GTX 780 with 4GB of VRAM. What is the specific GPU you have?

Your CPU is not particularly close to the recommended CPU, but is good enough to run the game.

You really think the Pixel and Vertex shader thing is no worries at all?

I did almost get a 2GB Geforce GTX 950 but a specialist said my current card was fractionally better and there was a £3 difference so I went with it.

Yeah as I said I'm absolutely fine playing minimum I just want to know it'll run as some games say minimum but what they really mean is it'll physically boot up and get you ingame but won't be playable even though you're on lowest res and settings.

you'll be able to play just fine with your set up. i've seen worse rigs/laptops play it.

Graphics: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 780 | AMD Radeon R9 280X or equivalent

your gpu(rx 460) is also weaker then the radeon mentioned in the recommended specs. 280x is better in performance.

so your system is overall weaker then recommended specs with the 2 core components cpu/gpu ... but as you said yourself, system requirements are relative, as the dev states then and as the consumer interprets them.

we have steam refunds, go for it. worst case is a temporary loss of money. if you wait a week then the amount is even less because of sale.

Yeah I bought the game 2 weeks ago and got a refund so I can't really get it again and cry to steam. Even if I could.... I wouldn't. I don't know how they quantify the refund abuse system but I want to make sure I never get anywhere close to it. I've asked for 1 refund in 8 years.

Dishonored 2. I partly got this card so I could run Far Cry Primal and Dishonored 2. I'm very disappointed that I can't run Dishonored 2 but it's partly due to my CPU so can't be angry at myself too much. I do really want the game as I'm a massive fan but I guess I can wait a few months as it looks like I can at least run Far Cry Primal.

Part of me wishes they would stop upping the graphics on everything. So hard and expensive to keep up. I just want to have fun with the story and gameplay. Eughh.
